2nd hand they are a lot of bass for the money especially with the types of wood used. Bubinga and Wenge. As you say the early ones are by far superior basses IMHO. The necks are sublime. Not sure i'd buy a new one these days. Anyway best not hijack the WAL thread. Dave

Brilliant Neil. I didn't want to copy them over myself as they aren't mine. Dave -
Ooohhhh that's very nice indeed. Not listened to a lot of Joni. Worth checking out on Amazon i reckon. thanks Dave

My Warwick Thumb was approx £1200 in 89 when i bought it from Sound Control Glasgow. Bass Centre had a sale on at £980 and i challenged them that i could just get it from Bass Centre so they gave me it for £980. Its the longest i've ever had a bass and after playing it yesterday for a while i don't ever see me selling it. Its simply glorious to play with its very slim neck and low action with that classic Warwick growl. Dave

Mine was £740 in early 80's. A Flame Sycamore lined fretless. I traded it because it had a dead spot on the G string. When i contacted WAL they didn't really want to know and weren't helpful. That put me off them but that was the old days and i had a lack of knowledge of what can cause a dead spot. Maybe something daft like a saddle or string issue altho i did try different types of strings at the time. I tried living with it but it just annoyed me no end. Loved the feel and tone tho. Really gorgeous looking bass as well.

Neil's also just posted Ready and Willing on his FB page along with quite a few others. Hopefully he'll share that on BC too. Dave -
If the WAL is something you've given a lot of serious thought to and what you want and dreamed of for a long time then just go for it. All assuming you can afford it of course. You're only alive once so make the best of what you can. Dave

Had a flame sycamore lined fretless one in 80's. Lovely basses cost me £740 new. I've had other basses before and after that felt as nice to play but no other bass i've come cross can get that WAL sound. I've heard WAL basses doing all sorts of different styles and tones. I've heard some basses that come close to a WAL sound but they were just as expensive. Don't think i would buy another new WAL but i would certainly like to own a 2nd hand fretted Mk1. Dave

I def like that. Its been done very well with the relic'ing
-
@Cuzzie like that white P bass with maple looking neck. Little bit on the relic side but i would be happy with that. Dave

I thought so too but apparently the languages are different in many ways. From what i found In Scots Gaelic its tapadh leibh.
-
Should have answered that in Gaelic but couldn't find an English to Scots Gaelic translator other than one that changed it to Thank Ye. That's more Scottish English slang. 😂 Dave

So the cookbook is in English rather than German then ? Dave

How many basses do you have ? Are you a shop 😂 What made you try the Ric pups in the Jazz. Not the usual way people go. I've seen Jazz or P pups in a Ric but never the other way round. Dave

i got the best of Redbone album for Xmas and thoroughly enjoying playing along with it. Not specifically learning it note for note but just having a little fun with it. Dave

Great song. Quite like Puddles version of it. Vid is quite good. Dave

Cannae beat learning a wee bit of Jack Bruce live. Extrordinary bassist and one of my favs. Dave
-
That's my plan too. 😂

The original Smoke on the Water had some nice wee bass runs in it. Love playing that song live. If done right the bass and drums can really drive it along and create a lot of energy. Think Bilbo posted the bass music for Limelight if its any help. I did read a thing where Geddy said he didn't improvise and generally worked out his bass parts to the note but i'm not so sure. I've seen him play different parts in the same song. Sure some the Geddly officianado's will know better than me tho. Dave

Came across this clip on Youtube and thought it was a very impressive tribute to Neil Peart.

KAM Powerbar - DMX controller advice please.

I used the projectors on the rear goalpost to give that pin spot look. Its a great effect having pins coming from a rear goalpost. Here's an old pic from 2012 of Deep Purple tribute. Dave -
KAM Powerbar - DMX controller advice please.

Had a full DMX rig with pars, projectors, lazer and smoke machine all run from a Showtec desk with 48 channels. I had all these great ideas for lighting shows but eventually ended up with pars running on sound to light settings controlled from the desk and the desk mainly used to bring in various projectors and lazer etc. It becomes overly complicated unless you're doing a Floyd show its a bit overkill. You'll also need someone to run the desk. Lot of time required learning the DMX programming and setting up "scenes" if that's the way you want to go. If its simple rock music i'd stick with just the sound to light option and let the lights do their own thing. Our drummer supplies all our lighting and its the KAM units he has and they are on sound to light setting. Works for 70's Glam Rock as there weren't a great deal of effects used for those bands back in early 70's. He does have other mirrored beam effects that are run sound to light as well. I sold my full rig last summer. Desk, 13 pars, 4 projectors, lazer, scanner, goalpost stand and 2off normal stands with C clamps for all lights and effects. I kept the smoke machines tho. Dave -
I use Briwax on my Thumb bass. It was recommended by a well known luthier when bass was in for some work. He said beeswax leaves a sticky feel to the wood whereas Briwax doesn't. Briwax International Inc - Furniture Wax, Polish, & Restoration Products I also have the Dunlop cleaner but i prefer the briwax on unfinished wood. Dave

Had a listen and very impressive. He does that funk thing quite a lot but its almost his trademark for me. Dave
