  1. Are you out in Niagara area by any chance ? I saw one of those Cobra's running about when i was on holiday over there altho it was 15 yrs ago LOL My VM4 doesn't have Delano's. Sandbergs own make. They also do others but we need @Cuzzie in this conversation to explain all the differences. He's my Sandberg Guru. LOL Dave
  2. Love the Cobra. Anyway having played and owned quite a few different basses over 40+ years i find the VM4 i bought 18mths ago to be one of the best basses i've tried. Quality is 1st class especially compared to some Fenders i've owned and tried. Neck is a dream to play with such a low action because of the Plek system. I'm down at circa 1.5mm on E string. Being a hard player at times i've found other basses all i could get was between 2 - 2.5mm. Bass came with the low action too. I get no fret buzz and neck is almost perfectly straight. Quality of pickups and pre-amp appears to be up there with the best of them IMO. Knobs feel firm and smooth rather than loose like my Fenders. My only negative on the VM4 is that the MM pick up doesn't have the Stingray sound but is more mid focused but i can live with that. Machine heads are nice too and reasoably tight but again smooth. All in all i would highly recommend the Sanberg quality. Dave
  3. Agree, My Cali VM4 is quite noticeably lighter than my Geddy Jazz or Precison Deluxe PJ. In fact its lighter than any of my other basses except the Yamaha BX1. Perfect balance on the strap too. Dave
  4. Still have my white one from 80's. Wasn't worth trading or selling when i bought a new bass so i took frets out and made it fretless. Was my first attempt so not a great job. Really thin necks, very fast and a pretty good EQ selection. Series / parallel switching too if i remember right. Can't fault it really. Wish i had left it fretted. Dave
  5. Birminam ๐Ÿ˜‚ Wondered how long it would take someone to get that.๐Ÿ˜‚ Dave
  6. I prefer the maple neck with blocks one. I find the maple necks give more of a zingy sound than my Rosewood necks. Maybe its all in my head tho. Dave
  7. Brings back vivid memories of when i was in nam Dave
  8. Ouch !!! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Poor Steve ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
  9. Saw that on FB today as well altho it was a 5 stringer he was showing off. Nice looking bass Dave
  10. Excellent Dave. I'll order today from Amazon. Means i can have the full collection LOL Thanks Dave
  11. Does this book still have your sense of humour running thru it or have you gone for a more serious book this time. ? Just read the Amazon write up and its sounds like a proper serious book. I do enjoy your books but its the humour that draws me in. Dave
  12. I'm now back to preferring my 4 stringers and just a lot happier with them than the 5 & 6 stringers. Kinda odd as i was always asked to bring the 5 or 6 stringers to studios. Engineer loved the Dingwall NG2 sound as he said it was almost like a piano sound. Dave
  13. To be honest i'm happy with mine the way it is from factory. Not measured it but i think its similar to my other basses which are typically 18mm on the Warwick and Overwaters and 19mm on the Fenders. It doesn't make much of a difference when playing altho i did have an ESP 6 string with 16mm spacing and i kept getting my positioning wrong but maybe that was more down to the fact it was my 1st 6 stringer. Dave
  14. Are the saddles adjustable for width ? Dave
  15. Thanks for making the effort but if its gonna be any trouble just leave it @scrumpymike. Didn't mean for you guys to go totally out of your way. I very much appreciate you are taking it on but please don't feel under any pressure from us. Dave
  16. This one for me but would prefer without the relic look. My 2nd choice would be the white/white/dots.
  17. I have the cheaper version of the Zoom and usually just leave it in the room somewhere to record the band or even my bass at home. Not sure how to di straight to it. Dave
  18. Phone recording might work OK. We record our rehearsals on singers phone. Need to keep an eye on your amp volume as if too loud it seems to overload the phone microphone but worth a try Steve. Is recording it at home at lower volumes an option for you guys using your phone ? Don't want to inconvenience you guys in any way ............ but if you're not busy today that would be good. ๐Ÿ˜‚ I''m just kidding of course. If and when you get a chance is fine. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ‘ Dave
  19. Some sound clips to let us hear what we're missing would be nice if you get the chance guys. Curious to hear the comparison between the two channels. Dave
  20. Its been a fascinating project and the idea of using the Aria SB1000 pick up was brilliant. Having owned an SB1000 in 80's it had so many great tones to play with. Dave
  21. Appreciate that and probably take a little while to get the ideal settings form all those presets. Dave
  22. I'm generally a fingerstyle player but when i use my index finger like a pick i tend to mute using the edge of my little finger and hand. That's more to stop other strings vibrating excessively. I would add that i do recognise a specific mute sound at the bridge end where its more of a dulled down sound. When playing like that i don't have a lot of right hand movement like some pick players so maybe its a different thing altogether. I tend to lock my little finger to either pick up lower edge or G string.
  23. So so very nice indeed. Hopefully we will get to hear some soundclips at some point. I've never heard an Aria SB1000 pick up in a non Aria bass. Dave
  24. Definitely a few months back but in past few months i started running thru our full set once a month or more if i'm up for it just to keep it fresh. I foolishly thought we might be gigging by now. I do have all my hand written music for every song plus live recordings from our rehearsals that make it easier. Dave
  25. Why thank you @casapete. I'll take anything i can as a compliment but no i don't recall seeing them. I didn't start bass until 76 i think it was and even the it was via mail order catalogue my mother had where i got the Columbas. I honestly can't remember if it was any good or not. Being my first bass i had nothing to compare against at the time. I did have it a few years tho so it must have been ok.
