1. Well the problem could be a number of things but the favourite (albeit without being able to see it) is going to be the solitary IC mounted on the small board to the rear of the volume control. I'm picking that because, unless one of the interconnecting wires has failed, the chances of a passive component failing are much lower than a semiconductor failure. Unfortunately all I can find is a rather crude wiring diagram without component values so I'm not certain how easy it is to get a replacement IC. The SR800 is an active bass and all Ibanez have done is split the active circuit into three modular sections instead of the more usual single board with a pile of wires running to it.
 2.
Brilliant songwriting, awful video directing. At least it's that way around though.
I get the distinct impression that it was one of those 'favour from a mate' type things...
 3. A couple of my favourites: This one sums up in music the way I feel about the way we have abandoned our heritage, you can't beat a good protest song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5h4PFBuzvw Incredibly talented young chap and what a fantastic venue for a gig! 4.
I remember liking Spirogyra too, but I've forgotten how Captain's Log goes. Can't hear it in my head any more
That's easily fixed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZqCOOYL82A
 5.
Leicester - mythical ? Hmmm
I didn't drive back then and the trains only went as far north as Bedford.
 6.
Was this in Leicester ? I always found the Carlsboro centre helpful , Mind you, I did buy a Precision off them that they 'hadnt had time to set up'. Green Lanes Music was OK as well back in the day.
No. Back in those days Leicester was a mythical place as far as I was concerned - I was in Luton.
 7.
The shop was Machine Head Music in Hitchin and the owner was Geoff Pumfritt who retired a few months later. He is now out of retirement and running a wonderful shop in Stonehouse, Glos. I have never experienced such amazing customer service before or since and I would recommmend anyone to try him just to prove that there are a lot of good'ns still out there.
I did a lot of business with Geoff and his guys - top bloke's the lot of them
 8.
I wish this could happen in every store! I'm unaware of the guidelines set up by major music retailers as to this kind of thing, but this should definitely be featured somewhere, probably in bold and underlined.
Well back in the 80's when I worked in the industry the only dominant store in the area had a bit of a reputation for being erm... 'less than helpful', partly because there had been no real competition for 30 years. Putting it bluntly, we wanted as many of their customers as we could get and went out of our way to make sure we were as different from them as we could possibly be. We nicked ideas from loads of different places and tweaked them to give us any advantage we could get. I'm sure our 'setup when quiet' policy happens in a lot of stores, but it's only going to be an 'improvement' as what constitutes a 'good setup' is so subjective. .
 9.
A few months back I was in a shop in Liverpool that will remain unnamed. I was looking at one of the Fender Marcus Millers they had in there. The guy plugged me in to a feeble little Roland affair, and left me to play for a bit. Under a minute in and I was pretty sick at the fact that the bass hadn't been set up at all; fretbuzz all over the neck, intonation issues too. The guy's excuse for this was "we don't have time to set up every guitar and bass in the shop". I told him in no fewer words that he should probably find the time, seeing as the instrument cost over £1000 and was by far and away the most expensive thing they had on the bass guitar rack at the time. Absolute moron.
When I worked in music retail we used to get stock arrivals straight on the hangers as soon as it arrived and get price tickets sorted. When we were quiet we used to take the new stock down and then check it over to get rid of any general setup issues and then put an 'X' on the back of the price ticket so we didn't repeat the exercise unnecessarily (yeah, we cherry picked ). If it was a high value sale then we'd happily make any other non invasive tweaks, because we needed that sale to invest in more and better stock. I think in all the time I was there, I only had one customer who felt he needed to speak down to me, and I threw him out.
 10.
Opposite Wilkinsons ?? theres another one round the corner as well, as you walk towards the Pizza place. Never been in them though.
You as well?!? Is there anyone here that doesn't live in the Tamworth area? Probably the reason I've not noticed music shops over in Tamworth is that I don't stay long enough to wander about, I just go to specific places.
 11.
It used to be an oldfashioned "junk shop". Evans Music I think its called. You cut through the car park opposite the Assembly Rooms and turn left. opens funny days (closed Mondays and Wednesdays I think) http://www.evansmusic.co.uk/ website. My two guitarists are from vaguely up your way - ones from Measham, other lives in Overseal but was Measham originally.
Ah - I go through Measham to get to Tamworth. I'll try and track down Evans the next time I'm in Tamworth for a look, but their website does make their range look a little 'limited' (I've never seen a shop get so excited about plectrums before )
 12.
I recently discovered that a small one had opened up in Tamworth a few years ago, I just hadn't realised it was there.
Where abouts is that? I'm over in Tamworth quite often and haven't spotted it either! I'm lucky enough to have a good relationship with a shop in Ibstock (I live in the next village), not a huge range of bass product but they'll always get stuff in and do their best to match internet prices.
 13. It really depends on how well stuck down it was. The actual recovering part is dead easy (a cross between wallpapering and wrapping a present) but scraping off bits of torn tolex and glue remnants with a stanley knife blade took me ages on a Roland Cube 60 I had many years ago. Never tried using one for this, but maybe a hot air gun would make it come off easier?
 14. I didn't think it was that bad a selection if you're going out as a covers band. You've got 'something' there for most tastes and age groups.
 15.
wouldn't mind doing Brittany
You wouldn't be the first... ...that came out loud didn't it?
 16.
There may also be tie ins that I'm not aware of maybe to be a string/bass/amp stockist you have to order a minimum quantity?
It varies. Strings suppliers are generally OK with shops ordering single packs. Equipment can be a,little different though - most manufacturers/importers will expect you to take a representative selection from the range before they will supply you. Once you've done that then they'll quite happily sell you one unit at a time, usually through a 'rep' who will make sure that you're still displaying that selection. The idea is that if they list your shop as a 'stockist' they don't want customers turning up only to find that all you've got is one product to look at.
 17.
Underwhelmed by the 300pro? Really? I had that amp for a couple of years and actually brought down a small part of a church with it (yes, really)
Nope. I was underwhelmed by an HD750 head. I've not tried their combos but that experience sort of soured things between my wallet and Line 6. Having said that, both of the guitarists in my band use POD XT Lives and they work fine and sound great.
 18. I had a Line 6 amp head for a (very) short time and was totally underwhelmed by it. I think many manufacturers use the 'if you add an 8Ω extension speaker' in small writing somewhere in the instruction manual whilst merrily giving the combo a name like 'ZXP300'...
 19.
I used to love the track "Richmond" by Andy Roberts too.
Was he the one who used to have the Jason King/Peter Wingarde moustache? The only one I can't quite place is Spirogyra, although according to Wiki they seem to have reformed and bought an album out last year.
 20.
That bottom picture actually has quite a lot of character.
...smeared all over it...
 21. You need to have a bit of an experiment. If you use the working cab on it's own and it sounds fine, swap that cab for the 'dodgy' one. Make sure you use the same speaker cable and socket on the back of the amp. If it still sounds 'dodgy' then it's definately that cab (you've removed all the 'variables'). If it sounds OK then the next thing to check is the second speaker cable - is it wired the same way as the first one?
 22.
And the new bassist is... Me! Yay! We've got a track from the new album available to listen to and download for free (or pay a little bit if you so desire) here: http://thealbionband...ck/one-more-day Hope you like it!
Well done! EDIT: And having listened to the track about 20 minutes ago it's still bouncing around my head.
 23. The common name is a 'walk up stand'. I know that Hobgoblin used to sell them but I'm not sure if they still do.
 24. Do you mean one cabinet sounds odd or are you on about one speaker in one of the cabs?
 25.
I think there might be a Folk Bass Threshold
There is, but people still talk to me anyway... mostly...
