1. Ok I'm making the change, the wedding band I'm in are doing more and more transposing for the vocalist and could do with some lower register! Looking to spend anywhere from £300 to £800, as I love my current collection of 4s so much I don't want to lose any, and have just bought another house so not as cash rich as I was... I like a light bass as gigging two or three times a week and being a slender chap I don't like them too heavy. Also I like a nice slim neck, jaZ style... Any experienced players want to help? Thanks!
 2. Haha great answer Roland. I thought he might have finally returned to his Finnish roots - either that or went for an audition as wolverine on heroin :-) I loved his instructional stuff, why did he suddenly stop all that? Anyone know?
 3. When I first got back into playing bass around 2007 time, Dave Marks was posting on YouTube, website, writing articles in bass guitar magazine... I liked his instructional videos. Anyway, whilst browsing YouTube for lessons earlier I remembered his name and looked him up - nothing for years. Anyone know where he disappeared too?! Great player!!!
 4. These are fantastic for the money. They play beautifully. I had one for years, sold to get the money for a Stingray at the time. I recommend these to anyone, fantastic range of tone and so playable.

 6. Had to share this with the bass community. I picked up an Orange BB414 about five years ago now, it was £120.00 in my local music shop second hand - at the time I needed a back up bass, and thought it was brilliant for the money, I actually did gig it with stock pick ups etc a couple of times and it was great, maybe lacked a bit of the punch of my Fender J Bass Special but overall very impressed. I then was inspired by some natural 70's P basses I had seen on here and decided to take a sander to the beast, only forgetting that I'm about as technical and practical as Frank Spencer with a cold - the result can be seen in the first pic below. Ouch. I made a real mess, and discovered this was a job for the pro's, or those who are a dab hand! My guitarist has an impressive array of instruments, and one caught my eye - cosmetically aged, home built... he mentioned it was his old man (with a little help from himself) that had done it. He offered to have him take a look at my BB414, and I gave them the freedom to do what the hell they liked. A week and some Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders later, and the results can be seen below, step by step with pictures - my very own 'signature' bass, created by the Taylor dynasty! We left the J style pick up in, it sounds great. I now have a bass I totally love, the pictures are pretty good but it looks even better in the flesh and sounds superb. Can't wait to gig with it!

 8. Not a mark on this, ever been gigged only played in the house - serial number S078813 Japanese mustang, white, tortoiseshell pick guard... plays and sounds great, just not the same sound as my 83 jazz bass special so not for me gigging wise. Would prefer collection but will post at cost no problem. Located in Middlesbrough.... price £450.00 Wont let me upload pics sorry - email me at [email protected] for pics!
 9. PS - this may turn out to be a tad ironic - but what the hell does 'Bump' actually mean?! I never really knew... is it an acronym or something?? Let the piss taking commence!!
 10. Yeah the 2000s have obviously got a big rep, and they look lovely - I think Yams are so under rated by the general bass playing population ( as in the young guys starting out, the guys who pick up theres once a week etc...) Fender is the big name and with good reason but these are incredible for the cash. I'll never sell that 414 I bought as a back up - it really is THAT good, and so comfortable to play! Cheers for a Yammy bump - much appreciated! We will all expect pics when you get the 2000!!!
 11. Bobby K - yeah this was on there, it sold then the guy let me down - but hey ho! No strings but I could always put some on, have a set of D'Darrios on my aria with some life in em... Machines - Very good, very witty!!! :-)
 12. SOO...... Heres the tale! Bought a Yamaha BB414 as a backup when I was gigging with a stringray... just purely needed a decent, value for money second hand bass... tried this in a local shop and thought it was fantastic, especially for the money - although I think 'serious' bassists respect Yamaha, if you stuck a Fender logo on the headstock you could probably put an extra £200 on the price tag! Anyway I digress - actually found (believe it or not) the bb414 to be a more versatile bass for my gig. Sounded awesome through my Markbass (what wouldnt? Could fart down the jack cable and it would sound fab - which is a good job with my playing!).... So the musicman went to the wall rack, and yes I know that will get me some stick. But the Yam was so versatile and gorgeous to play... so I invested in another from my local music store, this being the 424, to be my backup. THEN... two weeks later, I saw an advert in bass direct for a Fender Jazz 1985 special... AKA the duff bass... and being a massive guns fan from a kid always wanted one, so I took the plunge and bought it. And - it's incredible, and for the past year has been my gigging bass. So my spare is now my original 414... the 424 is still sat on the wall - (never played it in the house - only in the shop - it does not even have strings haha!) and has been there for a year - this has prompted me to sell. It's metallic red, 4 string, upgraded version of the 414 basically. These, in my opinion, are the best value for money basses on the market in this price range or possilbly overall. It's useless sat on my wall, so it's now for sale... Offers around £250.00, would prefer pick up.... but could arrange carriage if essential. I'm in Mbro, would be willing to meet half way.... 10 extra for petrol or something... anyone interested, we can discuss!

 14.
A long shot I know but would you be interested in a trade for my mint condition 70's Jazz (Mim) plus cash? Currently fitted with a black pearl pickguard. The original white one is also available. Cheers Pete
Hi Pete So sorry mate just picked up this message been away for three weeks with work and not checked... the P is still sat at home! 15.
Amaaaazing basses. I love mine and would never get rid. These things play so well, It really does play itself. Lowest action I've ever got on a bass with no buzz, lovely soft wooden tone and feel to the bass, not slick and shiny and 'hard' sounding like normal. Very warm, very thumpy. Amazingly light basses too. The neck took a bit of getting used to for me too, and I had come from Precisions anyway. Once you get used to it though you'll wonder why you ever worried. The vintage fretboard radius just makes it for me. Why don't they give fretboards a curve like that anymore?? Makes playing so much easier! Plus the rolled in fretboard edges. Ive been after another, purely cos I think these basses are future classics. I want to get a spare in case anything happens to mine! Shame I can't afford it right now.
Agreed Camel - the fretboard is lovely, rolled edges are great. My hands just cant seem to get on with a P. It really does 'thump' and feel like a vintage. Which is why i'm so surprised that it has still not sold... lol!!
 16.
I'd go back to the shop and say you made a mistake and you want the jazz version, doubt you'd lose much more than you would here.
Thanks for the advice there Tom - know the guy in the shop fairly well, they won't be getting any more road worn in (it's more of a bass starter pack shop... they only get one or two high end models in at a time...) so scuppered there. May just hang on to it for a while, or consider Evilbay...
 17.
If you like the bass and don't want to take a hit on the price, why don't you see if anyone wants to trade necks for a RW jazz neck?
Getting more tempted to go down this route.... :-)

But I fancy splashing out on (another) Jazz bass also?! Serious GAS at the moment!! Decisions, decisions....
 19.
Stick with it for a week or two. My '75 reissue Japanese jazz would have gone in hours this time last year. It's been on sale for a fortnight now with no really serious inquiries, so have had to 'Bay it (less competition ). Good luck.
Thanks Karlfer - I know Ebay is tempting but its full of ill educated people lol i'd have to start explaining specs and stuff. Plus the charges are not the best... and less chance of a collection only. I have no faith in them, but I have every faith in the bass community here!!
 20. For sure Essex - only had this a week, played a wedding gig with it Sat night, there was a bass player in the audience (I picked him, he was watching my fingers during the slightly tricker numbers, you know the type haha!!) anyway he approached me at the end and was just bubbling over with the tone, although maybe the MarkBass had somthing to do with that as well... Whatever they have done with these to make em feel so old, it's worked. LOVE the feel of a played in bass!
 21. Yeah - I admit to being surprised to finding out they were made in Mexico. They are producing some top stuff these days, I sampled a Jazz when they first appeared and just assumed it was MIA. What a snob, taught me a lesson!! I REALLY think its worth that asking price - think i'll tak your advice my man!
