1. Interesting piece here:
2. Thanks – I'm leaning toward the true oil approach – will report back
3. Thanks mybass – ah yes, fine wire will could be it! Sorry, I know you meant wool – I've got some Danish oil from an old DIY project so that could be an option I just read another thread here where @Andyjr1515 mentioned tru-oil Will report back
4. So… I sanded off the varnish from the back of the neck of my 78 Aria Pro II jazz bass and I'm wondering what to do next – it feels much better now without the glossy varnish – much faster Should I worry about anything other than it getting dirty? Can the stability of the neck be affected? As for a new finish, what about the virtues of tung oil, or some kind of wax or whatever Something I noticed immediately was that the hard-edged, percussive sound of the bass (un-amped) was altered somewhat, now a bit more muted All opinions and experience welcomed!
5. Thanks for the Wal link – I see that the rareguitarheaven outfit get some rather scathing reviews – I'll almost certainly get someone around these parts to build it for me as I'm a fussy git – I'll make a fresh post once the build is underway, don't hold your breath though!
6. Interesting!
7. I have to say that I've been through almost everything mentioned above and I've settled on DR Sunbeams, HiBeams and Lo-Riders for all my basses You get what you pay for, as with most things
8. I bought them from a fellow Basschatter about 10 years ago!
9. Yes, great aren't they – I've had two Wals, both MkI customs, and would like to get that sound again – I'll probably have to make an approximate body template using images from the web Cheers!
10. I'm thinking of building a Wal Pro 1e clone and wondered if anyone has a detailed template for this shape I should explain that I have a Wal Pro 1e pickup and preamp, complete with scratch plate – all I need is the wooden bits etc Dimensions such as thickness and routing would be most useful – the neck pocket is dictated by the scratch plate shape, so no problem there Cheers!
11. Bought a Canon Ixus camera from John – great price, great comms, great packaging – perfect Basschatter, buy with confidence
12. Update: both tickets now gone Two tickets going if anyone is interested – can't risk getting stranded ping me your email and i'll send them over
13. Price drop, now £225 – open to offers

Pedal builder

Should've posted this ages ago, but just wanted to say that Mike built a nice Pearl Octaver clone for me http://madebymike.co.uk/index.shtml Scheme here: http://www.madbeanpedals.com/projects/LowRider/docs/Lowrider2015.pdf Highly recommended, good build, good price and good communication
19. Walked right into that one!
20. Anyone used these guys: http://www.templatesandjigs.com/templates/other-brands/ I'm thinking of building a Stingray - I have two spare necks lying around
21. Ah, this used to be mine - sold to Andy in 2010, or was it 2011 I bought it from ABC Music in Oxford in 1989 - I always thought the action was a bit 'not quite right' but my main bass was a Precision and this saw little action so I wasn't that bothered I took it to Pete around 2008 (amazed that he returned my call!) along with my fretted Mk I for a once over and he looked it up in his book and saw that it started life as a fretless, which means it was fretted in the first two years or so After Pete had stopped the Wal workshop I had it returned to it's original fretless state by Paul Herman via Charlie Chandler - the fret lines are Pearwood Alas, not all is lost - soon Fishman Towers will resonate to the sound of my soon-to-be-built Wal Pro 1e clone - nabbed a Pickup/Preamp from here a while back - watch this space (or the build diary section) +1 to Andy, a good guy to deal with Fishman
22. Thanks chaps - will report back once things are under way
23. Hi I'm about to commission a Wal Pro 1e replacement body and neck (not from Paul) - does anyone have the dimensions of the body only? I have a pickup and pre-amp mounted on a Wal scratch plate so I know the neck width at the heel - I need the body shape thickness, etc Gawd only knows where the rest of the bass is - could be the pickup etc is from one of those where someone has stuck in some J pickups I have some pics of my old Wals (sadly sold) so I could always go from there - after all, it doesn't have to be millimetre perfect Cheers Fishman
24. Hi all New discount code from Peavey: PEAVEY Cheers Fishman
