  1. I've got two of these, on a P and a J - great bridges – GLWTS
  2. Can anybody tell me if the Delano Hybrid pickup can work successfully with the East Uni-pre preamp? Delano tell me that it will be OK but will have to be wired according to their installation guide – PDF attached – it has a switch to flip between J (passive) and MM (active) but unfortunately electrics are more like voodoo to me, hence the query I have the Uni-Pre installed so switching to their pre-amp isn't really an option Cheers! installation guide_2018_1.pdf
  3. Cracking work there – loving the Trace Elliott in the back of the third pic too 🙂
  4. Thanks for the suggestions everyone Next question is… should I use lead-free solder?
  5. Does anyone have a recommendation for a reasonably priced soldering iron?
  6. Does anyone have any experience with this pickup? https://www.delano.de/hybrid_4/hybrid_4_details.html
  7. Update: Back up for sale as the buyer decided it wasn't the project for him. The buyer reports that the truss rod turns OK and it's now sporting both pickups. - - - - - - - - - - Ibanez Jazz bass from the 1970s for sale – not looking for trades I bought this years ago and have never got around to doing the work needed and I already have a J so this isn't needed – it's not the lightest, but certainly isn't the heaviest either – I'll figure out a way to weigh it if there's genuine interest This is a bit of a project as it needs a bit of fretwork at the headstock end, and possibly a new nut I can't check the truss rod as it needs a stubby key and the ones I have won't go in far enough and I don't want to force it and strip it – the previous buyer reports that the truss rod does turn but doesn't solve the fret problem The action is very low and it plays perfectly up the neck although it buzzes at frets 1–3 on all strings – worst at the first, improving as it gets to the third, then all OK For someone with the skills this will make a nice bass – unfortunately I have neither the skills nor the time, so its has to go 🙁 No case, but could be disassembled and boxed for delivery (UK sale only) Cheers -
  8. I doubt you'll find a genuine one – I looked for ages for a Stingray clone I've been building for the last three years Tone5 do one (from Taiwan) and this place: https://tlcguitargoods.com/en/neck-plate-bass-6-hole-music-man-style-stainless-steel.html Good luck – bass looks great btw
  9. If I don't get any interest soon I will do that, good suggestion, thanks!
  10. Somebody asked about nut width… 41mm Edit: Somebody asked about the weight: 7lb 4oz with bridge and pickup cover in place 6lb 15oz without (1960s?) Shaftesbury Tele bass for sale – no trades, ta Nice short scale thud from what the seller told me were the original strings. No way to check this obviously but he bought it new and couldn't remember ever buying strings! The pickguard is cracked near the pickup and broken in three other places although I do have the two smaller bits that have broken off The screws that hold the pickup cover currently screw into thin air so a dowel might be needed here or a bodge of some kind to get these screws into something EDIT: pickup cover issue now repaired – screws now going into ash dowels The neck is in good shape and the truss rod turns Collection from Oxford preferable though could meet halfway if not too far – courier option OK if buyer arranges – (UK sale only)
  11. Sorry Jozef, UK sale only – apologies for not stating that in the advert
  12. Update: Last price drop before going on the bonfire in November Ibanez Jazz bass from the 1970s for sale – not looking for trades I bought this years ago and have never got around to doing the work needed and I already have a J so this isn't needed – it's not the lightest, but certainly isn't the heaviest either – I'll figure out a way to weigh it if there's genuine interest This is a bit of a project as it needs a bit of fretwork at the headstock end, a new nut and the bridge pickup winding isn't connected to the output – maybe this can be fixed or maybe needs replacing – the neck pickup is working The nut is obviously too low – I've put some card under the strings to tune it – open strings and intonation all fine I can't check the truss rod as it needs a stubby key and the ones I have won't go in far enough and I don't want to force it and strip it The action is very low and it plays perfectly up the neck although it buzzes at frets 1–3 on all strings – worst at the first, improving as it gets to the third, then all OK For someone with the skills this will make a nice bass – unfortunately I have neither the skills nor the time, so its has to go 🙁 No case, but could be disassembled and boxed for delivery (UK sale only) Cheers
  13. Note: the blue tint to the tuners in pic 2 is just the phone's white balance being off a bit – they are the usual colour… white-ish ☺️
  14. Yamaha APX-6NA Electric Acoustic for sale – no trades Condition is Ex+/Mint-, with freshly lemon-oiled fretboard, a new set of Martin ball-end strings and a Bergantino padded gig bag I bought this about five years ago for a recording project and didn't use it and it's sat in the gigbag ever since Collection preferable, could drive and meet halfway if convenient UK sale only Cheers! Fishman
  15. About time I learned to do the stuff that I usually pay for, eg fret work Any recommendations welcome Thanks!
  16. Way back in the early 80s I had the fortune/misfortune (delete as appropriate) to do the low-end bits in a band that modelled itself on Capt Beefheart and any number of other avant garde outfits – anyway, to cut to the chase, the lead singer dropped some acid before a show and things went south pretty quickly – he wandered into the audience and sat down, sharing a bag of mini-mars bars with the bemused crowd – needless to say the gig ended shortly after – no idea where the mini choc bars came from At another gig shortly after that, some oiks were chucking beer at us and he leapt into the crowd and smashed a punter over the head with a Les Paul he'd borrowed – that show ended with ten or so punters and band members swapping blows Not so much embarrassing as remarkable… great days!
  17. Nice one everyone, good to see the forum community spirit demonstrated here in spades. It reminded me of a news report I saw recently when a passenger was talked through landing a plane after the pilot had taken a turn for the worse.
  18. Indeed it was – I'll be doing another one soon so will report any shortcomings 🙃
  19. That is a pain – maybe it's the maple – I had none of this when I sanded my swamp ash Stingray body 🤔
