1.
I hate doing this so soon after I got a bass, but it just isn't working out as I'd hoped. I'd been wanting to try one out for a long time but I think I've really found a soulmate with my Sandberg, it's almost completely killed off any GAS, anything else is a curiousity to be explored rather than a serious alternative instrument at the moment. This certainly lived up to expectations though, it plays beautifully and sounds great.

Only minor negatives about this is that there's a mark at the end of the headstock where it looks like the previous owner's knocked it against something and the B string doesn't quite have the growl of the other strings (no difference in volume and there's a magnetic B booster kit available from Sheldon for $20 shipped iirc that would fix that).

Pics (sorry about the "mood" lighting, I grabbed them with my phone when I was on the way out of the house last night):

I'm looking for £850 for this or the following trades (plus cash where needed):

Any Sandberg (I'd like a PM5 to contrast my JJ5 but any 5er)
    Stingray 5
    G&L L-2500
    Fender Jazz V
    Bongo 5
    SUB5
    I'll look at any 5ers

I'm very open to offers though, offers that involve cash my way are favourable though as like I said, my Sandberg's scratching all my bass related itches at the moment so I feel I only need a cheap backup. If you do offer me a cheaper bass with the intention of making up the rest with cash, please include your cash offer with the offer of the bass (if it's negotiable, say so). I've been strung along for ages before by people offering me a bass I'm interested in, only to finally include a cash offer and it be incredibly low, so I'd rather not do that again.

I'd rather not ship, I have nothing to send it in and I don't like using couriers anyway. I may be prepared if the buyer sorts out a courier, but I'd take no responsibility for any damage sustained in transit, so pick up is far more preferable.

Anyone seriously interested is welcome to come try it out, I'm about a mile away from J25 on the M1.

    Thanks folks!
Interesting bass Thom, glad you like the Sandberg, you seem to have really bonded with that one mate! Anyway good luck with the sale, I'm not really in the market for a 5 er at the moment but this looks like a bargain to me.

  2. Anyone interested in this? It's my mongrel Gibson Grabber 1, it was put together as a spare initially with the thought of converting it to a 5 string. The neck is a 70s Grabber 1imported from the states and rare as .... it has a serial number and is straight with good frets and a nice profile. The neck has had an ugly but sound repair where the joint has come adrift (note this is not a break). There are two pins with visible pinheads holding the repair in place but can't be felt when playing - see pic. The head has been refinished in places as it looks to have been rubbed down. Truss rod works fine. Logo is original and there is a serial and made in USA stamp on the reverse. The tuners are old Schallers. The body is from a copy I bought from Ebay as a rescue job, it is quality wood and not ply, pretty hefty but sustains well and balances nicely. The sliding pickup and electrics are from the same copy and sound very like the real thing (I know as I have three of them) although they are a wee bit scratchy. Unlike the real G1 the bass has a P bass type bridge and isn't strung through the body. I bought this in various parts as a bit of a fun project, it has been unceremoniously bolted together by myself but actually works well and looks, sounds and plays very like my early 70s G1. With a bit of care this could be a fantastic bass but as is is a working bass. It is currently wearing flatwounds (not the black nylons in the pics) and has black chrome domed and knurled controls. The parts and import charges cost me just over 320 so that's the sort of ball park figure I'm after.

  3. Here is my Gibson Les Paul bass dating from 1995. USA made bass in cherry finish, beautiful neck and nicely balanced flat top slab body, all original Schaller hardware in black chrome and Bartolini soapbar active pickups. This example is about the same weight as a P bass many weigh a ton! Plays really well and sounds superb. Minor dings and a couple of missing screws from the jack plate, electrics are perfect. The bass has a small crack on the back of the headstock which hasn't moved and does not prevent truss rod adjustment. My luthier said this could be glued and french polished but it is cosmetic rather than structural. See pics for more details. Only selling because when I imported it I didn't realise it had active circuitry and I tend to prefer passive basses.

Looking at 430 to get my money back. Cheers.

  4. Here we have a nice early example of a Gibson Ripper Bass or L-9S bass. This is the bass made famous latterly by Krist Novoselic of Nirvana but also used by Suzi Quatro, Louis Johnson & Greg Lake. The bass has a very versatile sound and is known for its midrange growl, great for rock or funk. Unlike its cousin The Grabber it has two pickups plus a three way tone switch it also features a fixed neck and three point bridge. This bass dates from the early/mid 70s and overall it is in excellent playing and working condition and is - to my knowledge - original with the exception of the finish. The bass has been sprayed black and although this isn't a bad job it could be easy to strip this back to original. There are lots of scuffs and scrapes and plenty of buckle rash for that vintage 'roadworn' look - in this case genuine! The neck is straight and true and frets have been stoned but have plenty of life in them nice Schaller machines. Action is low and the bass balances well. It is a big bodied bass but is not too heavy. The electrics are a little scratchy but a service and clean would sort this - these are all original parts. This is a great vintage US bass at a decent price. I got this as part of a trade but I already own several Gibsons so selling this one on. It has a six digit serial that I'm told dates it to ealy 70s. Am not looking for trades but will consider offers. I'd prefer pickup but will send if the buyer arranges the courier.

  5.
If I didn't have a herniated lumbar disc I'd be all over that.
There's a similar one - maybe the same - on the Shergold Forum site for £975.
I've had a lot of Shergold basses and Haymans the bodies look big and chunky but contrary to expectation they have always been lighter than any Fender I've played.

  6.
I've decided to sell my Black Stagg EUB as I'm looking to upgrade to the real thing now.

It's not had a huge amount of use, so the fingerboard is in good nick as is the rest of the bass. The only thing worth mentioning is that one of the rubber seals into which you insert the body rest has disappeared into the body but this doesn't cause a problem when positioning it. It is currently fitted with Corelli Mediums and I'll throw in the original strings if I can find them! Gig bag included of course and I can ship in the orginal box.

Looking for £260 ono and that will include the postage.

  7. Here we have a great example of an Ashbory bass, this bass has a tiny footprint but a BIG sound and can do a pretty serious impression of a doublebass! If you are looking I'm sure you know what it is. Here is a link for more history. http://ashbory.co.uk/

The bass is as new with spare strings and gigbag (the strings have been removed for transport but can be restrung if buyer wishes), they cost around 260GBP new so this is a steal at £160 or P ex for Stagg EUB. The bass plays well and sounds great but I can't get on with the tidgy scale.

  8.
Hi - I'm new to the form, and to Ricks in fact, so please pardon my ignorance - why does this only have one pickup ?

I am interested by the way - I have a Grabber & a Ripper to trade.
Its a no frills take on the 4000 series but a nice bass with a typical Ricky grunt, as the man said its got only one pickup because its mono and more in keeping with the early Rick basses. PM sent. Its really rare in this finish had loads of interest but mainly people drooling rather than buying!

  9. Can't believe no takers! This is a gorgeous bass in excellent cosmetic and playing condition, the only interest has gone nowhere, this really is a bargain bass, if you email me with any P ex's I will consider 5 string Bongos or US Fenders, cash my way and others. The only reason for selling is it doesn't suit my playing style - nothing else, no catches, its worth much more than I am asking.
