Ah, I was hoping it was a little fatter! Cheers mate The Old Lady has an outing tonight. She may be old but she's a bit of a Helen Mirren, still looks young and still very much fit for purpose! C
More of a Suzie Quattro I'd say No worries re the bass.
Many years ago at The Standard in Walthamstow I was doing my 'blood spitting' bass solo with the KISS tribute band. The lights were low (just a white spotlight on my face to pick out the blood trickling from my mouth).... unfortunately I prowled too near the front of the stage, was blinded by the light, my stack heel boot lost it's footing on the edge of the stage and I fell forward into the crowd with a clang on overdriven low 'E'!!! lol! Luckily for me the fans at the front caught me & pushed me back onstage (without me spilling a drop of blood from my mouth!) where I continued the solo while blushing through my white make-up! Afterwards a friend (who had been standing near the back) asked "What happened in your bass solo? You seemed to disappear from view for a few seconds with a funny bass noise and then you reappeared again!"
ha ha I'm surprised you ever managed to not fall over in those shoes ....
This is the sort of thing that kinda upsets me about the music industry. These guys are clearly brilliant musicians but if it weren't for the web how many people would ever hear them? And there are countless other examples of wonderful musicians and songwriters who will never make a living at their craft while the "pop industry" feeds us all pap. Ho hum. Just feeling a bit grumpy today.
They are brilliant musicians copying 30 year old music almost note for note..... If you want to hear this music played best, put Pink Floyd or Led Zep on your stereo. To make money you have to sell big concerts, CD's or tracks, and merchandise.. I can't see these guys doing much of any of that so why should anyone invest money in them that coudl be gooing on a new band of youngsters dong new music? Why anyone would want, say Abba Gold's album of Abba songs is beyond me... That's why these guys are not getting air play and exposure and promotion. Now if they only did their orginal stuff, oh and put on a show, that might be different. When Zep came out who wanted to listen to someone playing Vera Lynne and Joe Loss covers? Nope, they wanted to hear Led Zeppelin playing Sonny Boy Williamson, Muddy Waters and Joan Baez covers
How about a cover of that one? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBDuExiVYTI What do ye think of them?
See these kids have more stage confidence and "show" about them than the OP band. That makes it so much better. Otherwise you may as well stay at home and put the orginal records on. The Op band's orginals sound just like other people's stuff too but not quite as good as, say, Wolfmother who ride that one pretty well.
The sunburst one is the twin of my MIJ '62 RI mine also has an N0 serial. Mine's very light as well and I'm sure the body is alder. Sounds great with the stock pickup as well. Good luck with the sale
Thanks Michael. Basswood is very much like Alder to look at, with a tight grain. I'm just assuming they are Basswood. Not sure of the sonic characteristics of Basswood compared to Alder. So many variables, even between basses made of the same woods... These both sound fine though.

And don't always rehearse loud... If you are learning stuff or working out arrangements make a conscious decision to rehearse more quietly. Then arrange rehearsals when you do play at gigging levels to check things like amp settings, foot pedals etc that only really work at volume. Use earplugs then for sure.
Ace, especially the horns!
Yeah, embarrassingly this find came about when the MD in the occasional funk band I play with gave me the baritone sax part for Superstition and I thought he'd transcribed it incorrectly. He produced this web page and I learned a lot Turns out I'd been playing it incorrectly for years without realising. I only ever play it on bass in 3 or 4 piece bands so I play the key parts of the clavinet and horn parts too Overplay? Wasaat?

Pete have you used a wedge as a directional stage monitor specifically for your bass? Your PA FOH can handle the main bass sound for the audience.

I put my amp rack beetween my cabs so I have one over, one under. It lifts the top cab somewhat. Not to ear level though. Maybe something like that. However I think IEM's are going to be a better long term solution. You may even be able to do away with your backline entirely.

Sound fantatsic. Brilliant with my eyes closed but then...... Just imagine how much better that would be if they didn't look like they are reharsing in their garage in the clothes they wear to fix the car. What about the show, chaps? Compare and contrast: Jimmy Page even strums chords in a Big Show kinda way....
See attached file - The problem is that the original is just the first page of a vocal/piano score - It's in treble clef. I've done a quick new one for you of the basic bassline & fill with fingering and position markers. You should find it much easier! The sharps at the start of the line denote the key of E Major. The notes adjusted are F#, C#, G# & D#.
You are a true hero, OTPJ Just to add to the above. The sharps and flats in a group at the start of the piece of music denote the key the music is in. It also shows which notes are globally sharp (or flat) the whole way through. That is unless there is a sharp, flat or natural sign next to a specific note. This is a temporary modification and applies to the note it's next too and to all of the same notes in that bar (including octaves). From the next bar onward the "global" sharps and flats apply again. That can throw people out as you can, say, sharpen the first note in a bar but forget to sharpen the second one because there's no "accidental" marked for that specific note. It's well worth having a session with a tutor on this sort of thing and also the "road signs" in a piece of music. Things like 1st time through, second time through, repeats, sections and "go back to the sign and then play to the end" etc. It's not hard once you are shown but if you don't know what it all means it's easy to get lost. I know
it sounds like you just avoided some serious pain. it'll be a gig to remember though.
yeah in many ways We had a support band too - ten 16 year olds playing acoustic versions of the same stuff we play (diddly folk) but with all the right notes and all in the right order too. We won on volume though
Hope the harmonica is ok?
Yeah, it's a toughie. A swift clean and it's OK. Thanks for your concern

Halfway through a fab dance which had 60 couples barging and swerving their way left and right over huge dance floor I took a step back from the mic, stood on a harmonica that had fallen off my stack, lost my balance and crashed back into my top cab, knocking my percussion box off the top .. The stack stayed up as I tie everything together with a strap Anyway I slid sideways off the stack and tripped on a stage floor light and 'urtled side ways off the stage... Fortunately it was a relatively low one and I landed on my feet. Being wireless I didn't then pull my stack on top of myself but I did stop playing for 8 bars No one noticed except my drummer who was showered with the contents of my percussion box .. Phew, I thought, and then sprained my ankle later doing something very innocuous .. Fun night.
* Don't be humpty if only two people turn up or nobody dances. Give the same performance you would if there's where 200 people going mad. * Mustang Sally is harder to play well than you might think
Absolutely! Two points often missed. -
