To put the cat amongst the pigeons- Solutions for problems we don't have: Active electronics in a bass.
Well I used to be 100% passive but since I've had an active bss I can see the flexibility of walking about with your pre-amp for quick big sound changes.
Staples do something similar, though the one I've got is unwheeled (and it's for instrument tools and bits rather than taking to gigs).
Yeah there's hundreds around from poundshops to specialist tool shops. However I've found the features of this one work well. I bought it in B&Q or Homebase or some-such and I'm just a tad annoyed that, yet again, something I think is really good is no longer available.. For example on Saturday the stage was the wrong end of the hall so 4 Ali cases, stage clothes and a guitar case went on top and that lot got a shove with my foot and rolled the length of the hall to the load out door... Without (4) wheels that would have been 4 journeys or I'd have to use my sack truck ....
I can't decide whether to get the Telecaster table or the Stratocaster table. The Tele is more practical because it's a more useable shape - but then the Strat is just that bit more indulgent and decadent because it's so impractical. I'd rather get the full on all-maple deluxe model than the standard model. This is what happens to you when you get divorced in your 20s! I'm also after a dining table/pool table.
I don't know about the other things, but I find the plastic things to wind cables round very useful for heavier/longer cables (eg a 15M speaker cable) - far less likely to get tangled in the cable box. Mind you I would pay more than £3.50 for one, and I still use a hand wind, or repeated fold, and velco for mic and instrument cables. Clive
Do you have a link? I couldn't find a website for them
Nothing wrong with the velcro strap, but winding it round your arm?? Noooooooooo... THE quickest way to tie your cable in knots, not to mention twisting it unnaturally. Wind it up into one hand... it doesn't take much longer than doing the round-yer-arm thing, but it preserves the cable's natural twist and stops it tying itself into knots the moment you release the velcro.
Oh yeah well I do that really .. silly me ..
Best cable boxes I've seen (doubling as sturdy stands with a black cloth draped over) are Ammo tins, quite cheap from army and navy stores. Or the medium sized soft hardware cases for drums, 'Protection Racket'.
Protection Racket don't seem to do rigid cases ... I did think about ammo tins as my band mate has one but it weights loads empty and rips up car seats Not on wheels either ... Looks cool though and my percussion lives in a Action Man Ammo box I may get one of these but it's a bit too large for the space in my gear cupboard at home ...

In my main band I play all these at some point: Bass Lead vocals BV's Soprano Sax Tenor Sax Didge Kazoo Penny Whistle Swanee Whistle Recorder Percussion Samba Whistle Duck call And in another band Baritone Sax
I use similar stackable plastic crates - Homebase do them but not exactly like yours. Have you tried your local "Pound World" type shop? I've seem them in ours from time to time.
Thanks I've been looking out for a new one since the lid started to fall apart about a year ago Nothing quite right though.. WH Smith internal delivery boxes are good too but a bit big

I ue one of these for cables and to elevate my cab. It's perfect for all the stuff I like to take to gigs, The odd shaped things fit in it; It fits the space in the car and cupboard, has wheels and a pull-along handle and is tough enough to stand on (or to pile 5 aluminium cases on and roll along) but light enough to lift when full ... However I need a new one as the lid is breaking up beyond gaffa repairs... No one seems to stock them in the UK anymore and the manufacture doesn't reply to emails (grrrrrrr) so .. 1 - does your local pound shop or B&Q stock this precise box - the "Plast Team 2046" (but not in white) 2 Do you have a recommendation for a cable box that may do everything that this does?
Not really in the same league - these are more boys' toys that you really don't need and that really are sad (but are secretly very cool). That really is a life essential and the Fender seating on the same website ... I wonder how much a Shuker Coffee Table would be ?
There will always be a special place in my heart for you Si. After all, it was YOU who introduced me to the wonderful (and expensive) world of Custom P5's. We'll always have the M4....
Yeah ... sob ... hill of beans .. crazy world ... Hey your Latte Precision is clearly broken as it's inaudible - I'll help you out and take it off your hands. I think I can get it fixed. My mate gave me a quote of "around 4 thousand punds" to do the job so .. fancy a swap for my very audible SX P ? -
Solving problems we don't have ... At music live there was a guy selling a plastic thing about a foot long and 6 inches wide that you wrapped a single mic cable around "to keep your cable box tidy" What is wrong with winding it around your arm and using a Velcro strap? That takes a load less space and costs a lot less.. Another was trying to sell a very nicely carved plectrum-shaped wooden box about 4 inches deep and 8 x 8. This lovely piece of wood (retailing at £35) was to put your plectrums in at home ....... Recently the music mags have been reviewing a plastic thing you attach to your bottom strap button that you pass your guitar cable through to stop jack plug socket damage in case you step on the cable ... er, like all of the reviewers I just pass my cable over my strap ... "Monster" cable fat jack plugs "so your jack doesn't fall out"... That only happens when you use a normal plugged cable after a Monster - and if you do the cable over strap thang it's not a problem anyway.. and ... the current BG magazine has a review of the ZzYzX Snap Jack Cable which has a snap off jack end attached by super magnets ... the point is that you can plug a bunch of loose ends into your different basses and then noiselessly switch over. You leave the end in the guitar.... The end will also pull off if you stand on your cable .. this is to stop you pulling your rig over or wrecking your jack socket ... and to drain your bass batteries when you forget to take them out... Can you imagine dropping your detached cable end on a normal stage in the dark? That comes under the same heading for me - what's wrong with muting your bass with your tuner to swap over, tucking your cable through your strap and around your amp handle? So ... What else is out there trying to part us from our money and solve problems we don't have?
-
OK Thanks chaps .. I guess we may be looking for a different problem then ...
the problem with Lidl is they never restock those offers... the shops get only a few each and when they're gone they're gone... I went after a multi-folding ladder at 11 on the morning of the offer opening once and they'd all gone... 24th March... that's the bank holiday Monday... I'll be waiting for the doors to open at my local branch...
Yup That's how they work .. But at least these come around in Lidl and Aldi on a fairly regular basis. Also available on eBay I'm told ... and maplins have a similar item that's normally about £30 but gets in their sale 2 or 3 times a year ...
