Signed, Wiki "The Valve Sound System is a touring sound reinforcement system specifically designed for the playback of drum and bass music. Created by UK artists, Dillinja and Lemon D, the system has a total power output of 120kW. The system consists of 52 subwoofers (designed and built for the valve system) as well as Mid-High cabs made by Funktion One. The full system is not used in smaller venues. It was designed exclusively for drum and bass acoustics and as such is the first of its kind." I went to one in sheffield student union, my god it was loud, couldnt get near the front cause it hurt, but they gave you ear plugs on the way in, and they make you aware its damaging to your health. I dont what the problem is.
It's legislation to protect employees Elfin' Safety, same as the smoking ban. This is not about noise polution or hurting the ears of punters who can choose to leave. We bypassed a limiter at a gig last year afterwards the boss told us we'd be banned for evernmore if we did it again He'd spotted it but let us play on anyway, just warning us at the end. A decent compromise I think.
Yes, that seems to be the case. It still moves about a bit, but the noise of metal vibrating on hollow wood has gone. I reckon making it slightly thicker would make for a tighter fit and stop it wobbling too, though that's not too much of a problem. Anyway, fellow Stagg owning basschatters, I need your help. How high, exactly, should the Stagg be in relation to my body? Should the nut be ear high, shoulder high or what? I have a problem with the whole thing moving around when I'm playing, making it particularly difficult to reach the G string. Every time I reach round, the bass rotates. I thought that one of the arms was supposed to brace against my body, but which bit? I read somewhere it's meant to be the hip, but that means having the bass quite low, which makes the left arm angle awkward and I have to lean right over to pluck. I've been watching lots of players on TV and they don't seem to have the problem. Maybe it's my body shape which gets in the way after the excesses of the festive season?
I play with the nut at eye height and the brace thing just forward of my left hip. Seems to work
I actually disagree I agree that arguments around what 'sounds good' may be subjective when you are trying to decide whether Dave Holland's bass sounds better than Marc Johnson's or whether Count Basie's band is better than Weather Report but, when we are talking about whether 'Moondance' sounds good, anyone who thinks it does is, frankly, delusional. In a nutshell, if anyone tells me that 'Moondance' sounds good, I cannot but immediately dismiss them as a lightweight. Its a bit like telling an art critic that 'The Haywain' was the greatest painting of the Nineteeth Century. You flunked! And, no, I don't secretly like it. Its the popular music equivalent of a bad X-Factor audition and shoudl never be played anywhere. It sold a lot but, then again, so does plastic doo poo!
Nah, you are wrong. Someone may think The Haywain "looks good" just as they may think Moondance sounds good. they are not "wrong" .. uninformed, misguided and daft, maybe but they are not wrong. I agree that you can listen objectively and say it doesn't swing, as defined by a set of rules for swingin' tunes. However technical you like to get, "it sounds bad" is still a subjective judgement. Shame Van bans his stuff from youtube though

Muting leads are good for protecting kit, leaving your settings where you like them if you have no mute switch on your amp or can't easily get to it. Also protect your ears, your audience's ears and your PA person's nerves if you have to change basses in mid gig ..
I nearly drove off the road in shock and disgust when I heard the climax of the Top 30 selling Motown singles on Radio 2 last week... all those wonderful classics, Jamerson oozing from the speakers, but have a guess what was the best selling Motown single of all time? Grapevine? Signed Sealed Delivered? Dancing In The Streets? Nope. I Just Called To bastid well Say I Love You. The lamest pile of drivel imaginable. I just don't get Stevie Wonder. How can the man responsible for the genius of I Wish and Superstition also be to blame for that bag o' sheeite..?
All the grannies bought it, people who don't buy records normally and who probably had no idea about Stevie or Motown or anything good .. It was that or Cliff's Mistletoe and Whine(sic), probably

"Fender" P Special reliced with a power sander,
+1 to Alex's comment. Don't try to bash then in with a hammer - pull them in with a large G-clamp or similar with something to spread the load or use a bolt with a big washer. Hammering will often end with the spikes bent and not doing their job.
Ok thanks
What's a top hat bracket? Do you mean a top hat? If you attach a top hat to the bottom of your combo, you won't be screwing and unscrewing it at all. It will stay under the cabinet and you will simply place the amp on top of the speaker stand, then take it off when you're finished. Unless I'm missing something obvious.
The stands came with a thing that could be screwed to a speaker so that it can be mounted on top of the stands if it doesn't have a hole. This isn't it but it's teh same idea I'll be taking it off after each of the gigs where I need it on the stand (it's a "very close to my ear" monitor for intonation problems on the upright stick bass). The bracket top hat thing will stop the combo standing on it's feet in between.
If you're going to be screwing things on and off repeatedly then you'll want to epoxy the nuts in place as well as forcing them into the clamp or bolt and large washer. They are the biggest pain in the neck when they come loose so be safe not sorry! Alex
OK I'd planned to do that anyway as I don't want them loose inside the speaker enclosure Thanks

That looks like they may do the job... Thanks How do I secure them inside the cab? Glue? Do those spikey bits hammer into the wood?

"Disclaimer: I am building this bass for my own pleasure as a home hobby and do not intend to sell or profit from the guitar in any way - should the finished item bear any resemblance to a real Rickenbacker, then it is purely coincidental." Wow I'm in awe of anyone who can make a bass from tree bits like that. Very nice project and result. Thanks for sharing!

Hiyah I want to stick my little practice combo on a speaker tripod stand. I have a top hat bracket. This could be screwed to the cab but I'd like a neater sollution than just screwing some big screws into it. Our Ev SX200 PA speakers have threaded holes in the top, I guess for flying them. That's the sort of thing I want so I can bolt the bracket on, take it off when I don't need it and the holes/nuts/things left in the cab look like they are supposed to be there, rather than ugly screw holes. The cab's made of ply so should be strong enough. So I would like to drill some holes, fit the captive nuts into the hole and then screw in the bolts for the bracket. I hope this makes sence Any idea what these may be called and where I might get some? TIA OG

Ha ha I never ever play it like the record, prefering some double stopped chord slides for the verse and then I can swing the other bit .. Still, the man that brought you that also brought you this bit of PinkFloyd-icide I don't really have a ban on this or Brown Eyed girl, I'd just prefer to play other things, even other Van Morrison things ....
