If everyone who has played HMWYRS in a pub band, on Youtube or their myspace just sent Norm a quid he could probably have a very nice retirement. Even more with Mack Rice and Mustang Sally (is he still with us?)

Sounds like a result, if it happens ... Then off to Ishibashi with you http://www.ishibashi.co.jp/u_box/e/ put PB70 in the search box on the left They have a variety right now. Shipping's about £100, add about 20% of the selling price plus shipping to cover the duty, VAT and handling fee and that's near enough what it will cost. Takes about 2 weeks to arrive. Reliable company and good stuff. Plenty of images there to see the features of a real Japanese 70's RI If you do try to buy one from them, though, it pays to get up early when they are still at work to put a hold on the one you fancy.

A slight detour but related .. I was at out local jam session recently. The woman bass player form the house band came over to the playing area and started packing, obviously in a huff. Packed up her mic and bass and was about to leave when the jam leader guy came over. They then stood nose to nose arguing, gradually getting louder until she yelled "you threw FOOD at me" about 10 times and then stormed out. The whole place sniggered and then a chorus of "you threw FOOD at me" went a round the room much to his embarrassment ...

You probably need to get out and try a few light weight rigs. Don't try them when your back aches or when you missus has been nagging about you banging in the bedroom after gigs (fnar fnar) but when you are level headed. Better still see if you can borrow one to gig with ... You may find the sound compromise (if that's how you hear it) worthwhile after all ... if you get off to Bassdirect you can book him for a Saturday and run your rig alongside his stuff for an a-b comparison .. oh and talk to Alex about Barefaced cabs
Right the problem I see is this. Boutique hand built basses are generally only for folk more into thier playing. whether that is as the need them for their income or because they can afford to spend their income on them. A lot of bass players go to soundcontrol and buy a fender for less money. Now ACG has come up with what I think is a brilliant looking bass (one of the coolest ive seen for a while) at a competitive price bracket. How do you make the idea of this bass cool enough to sell it to a broader audience? How do you make a legend?
Same way everyone else does. You wave it under people's noses, either in the wood at shows, or on a good website. You get one reviwed in BGM and mentioned in Bass Guitar You gather owner's testimonials and plaster them all over you website, people on here talk about them, people post wanted ads, you do the rounds of teh bass forums talking about the and you get abig name to wear one on stage ... Then you stockpile a few and wait for the orders to come in....
Y'see that's why I LOVE my band! No one is replacable...we're all too big a part of the overall sound, each with a unique instrument talent. And it would most defo not be easy for someone else to play my basslines...Or for anyone to play the guitar / drums either because it would not sound the same, once they get past the ability to play them. But we are just as much of the stage as the vocalist, I can't do this stand behind the guitarist thing, the band is made of equal members all creating one big sound...that means no one can hide. Plus...I'm too outgoing to do that...I REALLY wanna find how dangerous a mosh pit is with a bass in hand once I get my wireless...If one breaks right in front of me up front stage I have a HUGE urge to jump in. LOL! But...I love my bass too much so I spose I could put it down...but then the sound looses it's driving beef...so ya see, bassists contrebute more than many think. Yeah ok, a walking line maybe but a lot of people are unique in creation...SOmeone may be able to actually play yes, but never create the feel you did. So seriously...I dunno bout most bands but I LOVE mine...If one member leave, it will fall apart...the last band did with similar members, so would this...cept this one wont.
Tempting fate there, mate

Ok leave aside the clothing you still have an attitude clash in your band. If it comes down to a "take me or leave me" battle of egos, you'll loose. This is because she is the front person, the voice and face of the band and you are basically a replaceable element in her backing band. It's a sad thing but it's likely that 80% of the forumites could play your basslines, stick a hoodie on, watch his or her frets and no one would notice that anything had changed. If, however, your singer changes many, many people will notice. Your band mates will side with her if she is good and you'll be the subject of a few meetings and emails to which you have not been invited. A few weeks later you'll get a text ..... Well that's life.... So why not give it a go? If, however, it is a big deal for you then cut out the time delay and leave now. You won't win because you'll not convince her that dressing down will further the band's move towards success, whatever she means by that. Sorry.
It's not odd really though, mate. A bass pre-amp has limited interest even on a bass forum, but a kid determined to get his tongue pierced, and all the social connotations and opportunities for humour that provides, is relevent to the masses.
+1 Also there are many more people on TB so there will be more who want to talk about everything. Not sure they have an off topic section either.....
