1. Ska's not really my cuppa tea these days (although I was seen stage diving at a ska covers gig the other week) but when I was into it I really loved the bass line to Can't Get Used To Losing You by The Beat. It's all roots and thirds type stuff but it hits the spot.
 2. linky (the psychedelic background will do your eyes in) I had a quick scan over the net and a guy on TB said these should go for about 350 of your earth pounds.
 3.
Unfortunately I can't so will have to do with the best I can muster from my GT-6B. Thanks for the reply.
Could you post the settings when you get close enough. I'm wanting to use at Commerford-esque sound for a couple of tracks my new originals band goes live in August but haven't found time to play about with my GT lately (although I got near with the autowah quick settings once) what with writting new stuff, reforming an old band and keeping on top of my tribute band stuff..... all for the same event.
 4. I've used CH Guitars before for cheap bits'n'bobs, they are good to deal with but to be honest you gets what you pays for. I got a black Hipshot-esque bridge from them and the paint scratches pretty easy - the metal in their screws can be a bit weak too, ok if you are gonna put them in and leave them I guess, but I got some machinehead screws which had to come out after I'd seated the tuners and they were knackered first time so I had to get more. I would buy from them again if needs be but I'm just saying don't expect too much.
 5. Being self taught, probably all my habits are lazy/wrong but what bugs me in particular.... left hand - finger per fret technique is rubbish. I subconsciously support my pinky with my ring finger on the D & G strings and often slide up a fret in runs with the 2 fingers clasped together rather than going there directly with my pinky. It's not that I have small fingers (which I definitely don't have) I can only put this down to years of playing guitar before switching to bass and I've never developed the correct pinky response. When I remember, I practice not doing this but I hate finger exercises. right hand - I get a bit over excited and finger the E string (normally tuned down a tone) too hard which slaps it off the toppest frets. I didn't really notice this until we went into the studio and the engineer made a big deal out of it. I've managed to lessen this by playing closer to the bridge.
 6.
sh*t! Someone got a right bargain on that! Beautiful colour! damn..
+1 I like blue ones too. Buyers name suggests it's gone to the right home like.
 7.
....I prayed for the ground to swallow me up as we played song after song for 75 minutes with nothing but the faintest, polite clapping between and about 100 yards to the nearest punter. And it's amazing how a situation like that saps morale all round, leading to f-ups and blunders. We started out playing our best ever but ended up shambling about like dullards. .....This morning, I was dejectedly wondering if I should jack it all in. We certainly need a serious shake-up in many areas, including the set list.
I used to hate gigs where you're not getting any rapturous feedback from an audience (if indeed there was one) and would just get visibly more and more fed up as the set dragged on but now I don't mind them. At worst they are a paid rehearsal. We did one to about 30 people a few weeks back and I put in as much effort as I usually do and had a blast in the process. Stick with it man.
 8.
....then at the end of the set i go up on stage to start packing up, and what do i find ? the bass player's put a bottle of beer on top of my head which, suprise suprise, has spilt all over the rack case. thankfully there was no damage, but i mean...borrow somebody's gear and then use it as a beer table. out of order. AND as i was breaking my stuff down i noticed that they whole stage was pretty much covered in puddles of beer ansd there's empty bottles and broken plastic glasses everywhere... /shrug/ i dunno...it's just not the way i'd conduct myself.
I've noticed a crazy amount of folk putting beers etc. on top of amps at gigs lately. Like our guitarist who got a brand new Orange rig - first thing he does put a bottle on top. You just don't do that!
 9.
By way of comparison , you can buy Mighty Mite fretless LBF necks for about 45 brick on Ebay - mostly from US sellers. Funnily enough there's one propped up by the (turned off) radiator right in front of me , and it seems very well made to my eyes.
Oh really? She's not lined is she?
 10.
Sounds like another one of those dodgy Aberdeen types...
You aught to know like.
 11. I'm looking for a fretless for a project too and these guys keep popping into my inbox every day and sometimes I think "will I" (coz I like the fretboard overshoot) but I think I'm best to hold out for something more befitting. It has got to be nasty. They do a version with tuners for like £5 more. But as you said for this money it might be worth a pop.
 12.
Ain't no band mates to back me up I'm afraid...got to go solo for this gig. Just me, my new baby, (RKS ABass), and a backing track and the glare of the spotlight...eeekss!!
That's how I imagined you'd be doing it. Don't stress you'll be fine. Just practice standing up as others have said. You'll go up there and it'll be over before you know it.... then you'll be craving for more.
 13.
I'll be the heretic then, I say get pi55ed and go mental. Make them force you off stage after 45 minutes of ham-fisted bass soloing and dodgy dancing. If you feel like you're losing them at any point, just get your willy out.
This is what works best for me too.
 14. Geezer - the early years. ha ha just found this too - the very early years. Bless, for posting it on the net - I s'pose we were all this good at one point and equally as stoked about it too.
 15. This creature is as mad as a bag of frogs..... but I kinda like it. Looks like it might be missing a pup.
 16. I wonder how they know about it's "expensive" sound, it's "unbelievable lo-end and silky highs" when it doesn't even have a jack socket?
 17. I listen to a fair bit of metal but wouldn't use it to define my tastes coz I'm up for a broad range of toons. However all I'm listening to at the mo is Opeth, Down, Nile and Neurosis. My originals band plays a sort of evil RATM/soundgarden fusion you couldn't call it metal tho. Our Pearl Jam tribute band does what I'd consider mainstream rock (and boy do we rock) but our lead guitarist is from this lot. Fan-bleedin-tastic!
Pantera - This Love;
This is more my cuppa tea than the afore mentioned Pantera track.
 18. 1982. The Fake Plastic Battleships. Me on guitar and my brother on bass. The Who, Pistols, Sham 69, Xray Spex etc. We were like a Scottish punk version of the Wyld Stallyns ie. we never gigged in fact I don't think we even learnt a song all the way through but we made a glorious racket. At one point we were joined by a guy from Glasgow who could actually play then it dawned on us that we were rubbish so we gave up... obviously I stuck with the foolish notion that one day I'll be a rock star.
 19. When I first switched from playing guitar to bass I remember it used to make me trump a lot - I thought perhaps the vibrations were jiggling my innards... Maybe I found the 'green note'?
 20. Go for it. Sounds like an ok deal. In my experience if folk come looking for you, they'll treat you well. Plus you'll be able to add "international artiste" to CV.
 21. Nightmare man! You think with all the rules and regs and line check only policy it would run like clockwork. Last time we were in there there was a late start too. There's a 12 o'clock cut off for live music coz of the neighbours (??? hoors and seagulls???) but we went on about 11.30 and were aloud to play until 00.20. Youz were lucky you got to play at all. I guess either Flash really wanted to see you guys himself or he just didn't want a riot on his hands. We had a few of your crowd in D/mond's when we were sound checking - pretty easy to spot like.
 22.
someone got a good deal on this!
Woah, scoop!
 23. 2 gigs in the city this w/end. Friday : Blue Lamp. charity gig in aid of a local cancer wing. Shorter 1 hour set. The sound was done as a practical exercise for the music college, so was a bit up and down but by the time we came on they'd found the right settings. Hot Mangu (a band I've always admired) were on before us, sounded freaky as usual. They used my rig (had the full 8x10) which had me gushing. Saturday : Absolutely awesome gig in Drummond's. We had moshers and stage divers - 3 encores. It was our 2 hour set but we did it in 1h45m. The only problem was the heat and there were a couple of times where I thought I was going to pass out. My sub is really doing it's job - I had a couple of stage invasions to compliment me on my "abilities" also some French guy asked our lead guitarist for his pick as a memento.
 24. Rob Trujillo has a bunch of different stances too though, including holding his bass on his lap (like sitting down) while he's standing up.
 25.
I did think about that. I'm yet to open up the electronics cavity of my 5 string, though I did on my 6 string and it was a huge mass of wires Didn't look like there was room in there for anything else.
Yeah mine's a mess of wire too. But there would be room in there if I tidied it up. I'm trying to think how to maximise the weight/space ratio - lead would be best I suppose. Being an aquarist, I use lengths of lead ribbon to weight the plants in my tanks, perhaps you could get a hold of enough and mould it into the available space. A bunch of solder would work too I suppose. edit : Ooh what about that lead they use for stained glass windows? It's quite ply-able. Hardware store/craft shop.
I notice you have an SRX, rather than SR - perhaps the balance is more vertical-friendly? Thing is, I can easily get it into a more vertical position, but I'm either holding it up with my left hand, or pushing down with my right, neither of which, I find, are good for my technique.
Gotcha. Mine is quite low slung and I'm pretty energetic when I play and nod the neck (mine and the guitar's ) in time with the music so I'm gripping the neck all the time. Technique doesn't come into it.
