1. Hi Legoheads, yes I followed your build thread wayback when...It was the inspiration for my own attempt (along with another chaps). I even tried to contact you and offer to buy the parts when your build stalled. But, I'm glad to see that you're back on it, awesome work, very impressive. I guess you didn't make heaton park? (bit far to go I suppose). Needless to say this bass has seen lots of action since the roses annouced their resurrection. I'm planning on pimping an Epiphone JC & a Rick 3000 next... Keep up the good work dude...
2. ...poor mans rickenbacker 4005.

4. I know what your thinking...and no the hose pipe is not plumbed in, there's a hose pipe ban on after all... You may also be thinking that this is a differant box...it is. The last one the measurements between the nut and bridge were way out so I had to start again. This looks better anyway. It's actually surprisingly playable sounds nice too, I can even leave it lying around and don't care if the wee ones batter the hell out of it. watton_earth out
5. Finished..
6. Boooooo! I've come to a flying stand still, I need 55mm screws for the neck, and these are difficult to get hold of. Dam imperial measurement system. So they are now on order. Also... The electric's didn't arrive in time, so... I suppose it's time to kick back and play some bass.
7. I also cut the hole for the toaster. There's enough space to raise it up down or even just remove it plop it in another project...
8. The cigar box I got from ebay came sort of ready to go...but unfortunatly the neck didn't really look that strong, so unfortunatly I had to re do it. In retro spect I think I should have just bought a cohiba box like I wanted but, i'm lazy and impatient...
9. I didn't really have a brief as such, and I don't smoke any more so there isn't even a design on the back of a pack of fags. I don't care if it's not polished, I don't have enough time to pick toys up off the floor most days so, let's do this already. So with that in mind the parts that arrived aren't exactly top quality...but this works I think... For example I ordered 2 left & 2 right tuners, so when 4 right tuners turned up and 1 was of a differant design to the others.....(meh! look at all the lovely f*cks I give). I did have to massage the odd man out tuner into position (with a lump hammer and a vice) Here it is... No I'm not going to sand it...
10. Tacky tape and a pen then we are ready to go!
11. Right... I can no longer be arsed to talk in redneck: translation: Lazy f*cker Soooo... I have decided to style the headstock on the headstock my other basses have.... That's right... fender!
12. Got me lumber, a box, n nails. Broke na, shiyt! Translation: I ordered a: - Bass paddle neck, this is going to allow me to cut the design I hand in mind. - Kent armstrong toaster, I like the way sound & look - elephant ear tuners - chunky bridge (need some weight in the body I guess, but mostly I just liked the way it looked) - Medium length (and gauge) just a guess £4 from ebay can't go wrong I spent my way close to half an epiphone jack casady bass (GAS!) , best not to think about it really.
13. Got me sum parts from dang magic tv. Slap ma thi! Translation: The parts ordered on ebay arrived in the post! hoozah!
14. Hey thar fellars, watton_earth heear. ah cum over a mite redneck, an been hankerin for t'try mah han' at buildin' a cigar box git-fiddle fo' a long old time na. So ah had some time t'take, an' some spare bucks an' ah decided t'does it! Well howt doggy! Translation: Hello chaps, watton_earth here. I have been wanting to try my hand at building a cigar box guitar for a long time now. So I had some holiday to take and some spare money and I decided to stop procrastinating about the bush and do it! Horrah!
15.
The CEO of Rickenbacker recently decided to threaten Basschat with legal action if they didn't act to prevent the sale of Ricky copies - absurd, bullying tactics IMO.
Oh yes the rather massive locked post at the top...
16.
This is rather topical at the moment, no?
Out of curiosity, why is this topical? (I've been away from the web for a while)
17. wear one of these... or you'll be playing one of these.... through one of these...
18. Come on probass.co.uk advertise the dam vantage already! i'm hoping this is another rickenbacker tribute.. only.... make it a 4005... Please... Pretty please... with sugar on top?
19.
I got a similar bonus recently and blew it all on my new Ric. Best use of the money ever!
Me too. I recently bought a brand spankers 4003 (maple glo if you must know). Some of the bonus went towards the rick but then I also sold all the other basses, bass bits and bobs, kidney etc...(except the 4005 faker of course). The rest of the money's going on the mortgage, as agreed with she who must be obeyed, all 27 pence of it. I have to say that I bought the Rick partly to cure the gas, I was spending altogether far to much time on guitar porn, and not enough on playing.... I fear the effect is short lived... Lifes short, but it's wise to spend only what you can afford. Buy a bass!
20. I saw a few 'vintage' basses that were expensive and only a few well priced more modern second hand basses and guitars. (it's mostly new stock as they've just opened.
21. I went to guitarguitar Epsom this week. They've only been open a few days, thought i'd mention that: - Lots to see and play with. - Good facilities. - Professional staff. - Finance available. They let me trade in some basses and a pedal towards a new bass and gave a good price. They even called me 'sir' Well worth a visit. watton_earth
22.
\ Its a Kay used to be sold in Woolies and catalogues unless you are buying for nostalgia I'd say DON'T DO IT!!!!
I wondered why the headstock isn't shown...So I did a bit of digging. You can see the headstock here.... http://www.justguitars.com.au/vintage-guit...l.php?guitar=35 Glad I didn't bid on it.
23. Out of curiosity what did you do for the bridge? I bought a 6 string, and then converted it to look like this.... http://www.winfieldvintage.com/parts/combo-bridge.html
24. Hi, both yourself and another chap who I think was called 'legoheads' on this forum were the inspiration for my own mani-a-like project. I saw your build here http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f57/rickenba...05-copy-283322/ I tried to contact yourself and the other chap to see if you/he wanted to sell up but got no reply. So I took the plunge and started buying bits. Personally... I freaked out when I was about to take the bandsaw to the donor bass, so I got a pro to do the build for me. Your bass looks awesome! PS: Do you have any Stone Roses tabs?
