1.
I meant does the Model 1 sound better than the original Squier pickup????
Loads better, Squier one is definitely a mudbucker, this seems to have sensible output and loads more top and definition. Think this is going to stay as my siple single pickup bass.
2.
If it's any consolation my EB-0 came new with the entire pickup 'offset' by nearly 4mm and that still sounds fine. It's probably a feature you wouldn't find on an Alembic but a little offset doesn't seem to do any harm. Has it made much difference to the sound?
Doesn't appear to make much, I but I don't do bends and such. Bit of narrowing at the bridge when I score something adjustable will sort it.
3. This program AP tuner I use to tune at my pc has a frequency analysis function, fairly interesting to see a breakdown of the harmonic content of your bass output.
4.
I'm pretty sure that's just plain contra! I'd love to hear some playing using an F# string. I can't imagine what on earth it's used for, lower than that horrible sounding bottom A on a piano. My only delvings into 'sub contra', and only by a smidgeon, is detuning the B string to Bb for some songs. It does throw my fretting out a bit though having to think about Bb E A D G tuning. What styles of music are using these mentally low notes?
Doom Actually, doom rarely has the sophistication for low F#, don't actually know where that is useful. Can't really generate Doom SPLs with that sort of lows.
5.
on a good night my missus cleans my rusty pole piece.
Rusty trombone?
6.
I did this on my Ibanez SRX700. Works a treat. Oddly, the AlNiCo poles on my Ray5 have never tarnished. Nor those on an SD basslines MM unit in my Zoot... must be non-ferrous alloys (?)
Sort of, its AlNiCo.
7. Did it with some pieces of wood, ended up with no lower bridgeward screw, as that piece of wood got in the way of the wire. The poles are too narrow spaced, so it looks wrong, but sounds fine. Also have to shim the whole neck pocket as the poles touch the strings even when all the way down. Used dense card, but will score some veneer for it.
8.
How much are you looking for?
Definitely not enough of these in the house of bass already. Actually eyed it, fitting one to a telebass right now, logged on to find wiring diagram. But the bridge one on my P has pleasing growl.
9. Will need a preamp. A quite good power amp is probably beneficial, I think they suffer a little more with straight instrument signal.
10. Think someone (OldGit?) was selling a Randall Biamp head. Had a crossover and two outputs, bass and treble, with different sized power amps.
11. I tuned ADGC, mostly used those lows for loads of bottom, if I was ever actually playing notey stuff, I'd be playing in standard bass range. In all the pics you can see me fretting around the 7th fret. Big giant custom tapered newtone strings and lots of speakers.
12. Sansamps are real nice though, and a few seem to be floating about.
13. In answer to the original thread topic: 'All of it'. Doom.
14. Will take £225 for this while I've got a pending incoming new cab.
15. Did you lot buy all these? Now the bass for it has arrived they've all gone. Grrr.
16. If there is a price up, I'll pay some attention, if its asking for offers, I'll only shoot a madly lowball offer, and only if its something I specifically want. Plenty of stuff I didn't especially want but bought cause it was a bargain, then found a use for. People who don't state their price do my wallet and living space a favour.
17. What's the neck profile like? Chunky or skinny?
18. Pretty much only buy basses if they are something of a bargain. Best so far was a P copy for £17, someone had obviously put a bunch of money into upgrading it, it had a anodised plate, heavy bridge and EMGs in it. Stripped it a rebuilt it into my bass of Doom.
19. I'm thinking a chunk of scratchplate material, or even wood fitted underneath will do the trick. Like a big washer.
20. Have all the parts, thought I'd have it apart and stick it in. Nope, the route is far larger than the pup, so there is nothing to screw into. I know people have done it. How? Grrrr!
21. So round ports are best for port purposes as have least internal surface and smooth airflow, but the shelf/slot jobs provide bracing, which is more significant in the real world. And my grandad's books on jet air intake flow and fluid dynamics is sort of applicable, but is has to work in both directions.
22. Just had it out, doesn't look as modern now, oldschool square magnet, no manufacturer but what looks like a service sticker on it. Will get a pic some point later when a camera is about. No wonder it weighs a ton, the port goes half way up the back, really long then flared into the horn at the front. All really thick ply.
23. Umph loves stuff like that.
24. I have a mudbucker tele bass on the way, thinking of one of these to give a bunch of new sounds from it, and hide it under the oldschool bridge cover. Is there any tricks other than an active buffer to use it in conjunction with the magnetic pup? Ot am I better off running two outputs? Might be able to rig a socket into the bridge cover.
25. Give the surfaces a wipe with some meths to degrease and it will stick a load better, if thats what you are after. I've seen velcro dots used, if you stick them on the white squares, they'll hardly show.
