Sometimes BC feels like a support group for GAS sufferers...
-
Enjoy it while it lasts! In my experience it's short lived... although you seem to be one of the most sensible types around here, hopefully the blissful periodwill last longer with you.

Sin duda

I love the description of the pickup... and

Then... welcome! And I wish you good luck controlling GAS (gear acquisition syndrome)... I spent more money in the first two years after joining BassChat than in the previous 20 together 😛

Funk advice - stick to the bassline or busk it?

loved it! -
No worries... I was really confused I thought it had some hidden meaning I could not figure out... But then I haven't had lunch yet and I'm starving so my brain is not at its brightest... It's all good

I see, then it must look more attractive than to me. I find the SR5 too narrow. The nicest 5-string I found was a Lakland 55-02, not just the profile, but the wide neck (19mm string spacing at the bridge), followed by a Squier Jazz V DeLuxe, a bit chunkier and also 19mm. I guess I could play any 5 string just as badly with a tiny bit of practice

Uff, I don't know. The natural/black one that TimC is playing looks extremely sexy...
-
I was asking about the high pass filter in the 3-band EBMM preamp.
-
I haven't tried one, but the strings look really close together

If you are going to change what I actually typed, at least add some note to indicate what you really mean... otherwise it's utterly pointless and confusing edit: and the smiley

Unfortunately, you win a Rick... 😛

well put

So do other basses. Easily. It's just inertia...
-
... about Stingrays? Never!

Thank you!!! I was struggling to find the right words, but you nailed it here. I love Precisions (as my avatar may suggest), although I use Stingrays and PJ types mostly... If I use a specific bass for recording, it's because I want its specific sound. Of course, if I were a hired gun and they tell me "hey, we want the bass to sound like a Precision" then I guess you use a Precision. But I don't think there's anything inherently superior about the sound of a Precision in any given style. The thing is the Precision has been historically used in a LOT of well known recordings, so it makes sense that any decent producer would be familiar with Precisions, possibly more than with other basses. However, to insist on a Precision, unless you really are looking for THAT sound, is either narrow-minded or lazy. Probably both. I think.

Ugh... one of the worst articles I've read in a while.

At least it says clearly that the expected delivery would be 7th-10th of January. What really annoys me is when they say it's in stock (somewhere in the planet) and don't indicate delivery dates... so you order, and THEN they tell you "oh, we hope to receive it by next week, you ok with that?". Tell me before I order, then I'll decide. I ordered that Ibanez soft wide strap from Absolute Music and that's what happened. It was finally delivered... while I was away from the country, so I still haven't even seen it. My girlfriend likes it 'though

2005 EB StingRay Recently Traded to GuitarGuitar Edinburgh

I'm just not convinced. It's not on the level of a 1961 Fender Jazz or the like. (It is a much nicer bass for a lot less money ) -
The John East preamps are very easy to install, and it's all reversible very quickly. There was one recently for sale in the forum... It would be easy to have a go and see if it's for you, and not lose any money if it turned out it wasn't for you. But I'll stop, in case I'm accused of being pushy
-
That's good to know! Do you know what kind of frequency it is set up at or any other details? It can potentially explain why some feel the Stingray lacks a bit of bottom end, if they tried a 3-band and they're used to something a bit... girthier. I have only played 2-band Stingrays, really, and I find it difficult to imagine someone could feel they lack bottom end.
-
Oh, you did? I went crazy at one point with those preamps, and I had 6-7 Stingray-like basses at one point, all being modified... I can't remember where they all went One thing I discovered is that if the pickup is wired in series rather than the usual parallel, it suits the 2EQ much better, for my liking. It's like the extra low mids punch fill in a little hole left in the preamp or something. I don't know, I like it a lot. My USA MM SUB is wired like that and I never missed the semiparametric mids on that one. So much so that I'm tempted to rewire my Stingray... Maybe one day...

I don't see why edit: unless you're a collector? -
You seem confused about shims and what they indicate or not.
