Same here. Used the free version for a few years before finding out about the free education upgrade.

Sharing a little love for Canva.com, a free graphics creation site. It has loads of templates and editable designs for everything from A3 posters to Instagram posts and facebook banners. If you work in a school (like I do) you can get a free upgrade to the pro account, which adds features like social media post scheduler, animations, premium content etc etc. As an example, I have zero artistic ability and I used it to make my new band's logo and this instagram animated/audio promo in about 15 minutes. #Edit Apologies, I can't make the promo any smaller! Fixed it myself, nothing to see here.......

The clickbait works then? Ah well, at least you've learned that I'm a doofus. -
Never mind, I'm a doofus.

They don't do the 5 string in this finish, otherwise I would be powerless......

So it's not just me then? This is an inevitability whenever I'm being recorded. My new band is trying to get some 'live at rehearsal' stuff down to send to venues and I just get a mental block! The band sounds great though, and I bet it's only you who noticed the little blip.

This one's from last Saturday. A bit of a reunion for the old band up in the Lake District. The drummer is a permanent Coniston resident. We played an hour or so as part of a multi band charity do in a friend's garden. Just bloody good fun. Like putting on an old pair of slippers, we just dropped back into the groove. I'm sure that it was looser than when we were gigging regularly. No idea what the live FOH sound was like either. Sandberg Cali TM5 into the house rig. Couldn't hear much onstage, least of all my backing vox but didn't care. Just great to be back making noise with good mates. VID-20240901-WA0019.mp4 VID-20240901-WA0020.mp4 VID-20240901-WA0029.mp4

Excellent condition Vintera Mustang. Seafoam green, 2021 model MIM. Picked this up in a trade a couple of weeks back. It's lovely, but I only play fivers and something else has inevitably caught my eye! Super clean, it just had a new jack socket for the trade. Previous owner put a black neck plate on, I also have the original which will be supplied. Weighs approx 3.5kg on the bathroom scales. Comes with a pretty battered gig bag. Collection from Sale, South Manchester. Postage available at buyers cost and risk. I don't have a hard case but I can get a box and wrap it up well.

Thanks to everyone who contributed ideas. Sadly @Doctor J, I couldn't convince the others to go with Erotic Funk Chariot or Funk Gestapo We had a really positive discussion at last rehearsal (more details in the rehearsals thread of you're interested) and decided on..... For non northerners, tea time translates to dinner time for the rest of the country. I'm still messing about with logo designs in Canva, so this is an early draft.

How was Your rehearsal last morning or night ?
colleya replied to nilorius's topic in General Discussion
Cheers! I was in my last band for so long that I'd forgotten about this part. It felt weird not just playing and working on tunes, but the discussion was much more productive in person than it would've been on WhatsApp. Next steps, record some promo sound clips, confirm the name, get a logo and start to look for some gigs! -

A really positive rehearsal with the new band. I think this is our 5th/6th one now. Weirdly, we didn't play very much stuff. However, we got the desk settings sorted for our IEMs, and what we did play sounded great through headphones. We also spent quite a bit of time discussing the direction/theme of the set. Up to now we've been playing a bit of everything, but it's becoming clear what we like to play and what fits us as a group. We went through the existing songs and culled the ones that didn't fit the direction, then decided on some new ones to learn for next time. And...... we might just have a name! Not saying anything yet as we're still doing due diligence online and getting the social media handles set up, but it's looking good! Feeling excited about it, you never know whether a new band is going to fly or not, but hopefully this one is looking good. -
Sounds great! Really tight and you're obviously having a brilliant time, top stuff!

For sale, my snappily named Ibanez EHB 1005SMS, bought this from Vin Venal on here in 2022. Originally the silver colour, I loved the surf green that was only available on the non multi-scale model, so had it refinished by my mate who runs a bike building/painting company (Northroad cycles). It's a good job, with a couple of small flaws on the back and scuffs on the lower edge that I've tried to show in the pics. Priced accordingly. Everything else is stock. It sits really well in a band mix, and singers especially love not being hit with a headstock. Weighs approx 3.2kg using the bathroom scales method. I've rehearsed and gigged with it about 20 - 25 times. Set up with Newtone light gague strings. Nice low action etc etc. Comes with ibanez gig bag. The only trade I'd be interested in is towards a stingray special 5, obviously with cash from my end. Collection from South Manchester (M33) much preferred, but postage is available. It will be well packed. More pics/video available on request. Live gig video 1 video 2

I think the band want a name that fits all of us, not just me.......
-
@AndyTravis yeah. Not sure if it works with everything else yet. We're still at the pre gig-filter 'try everything and see what sticks' stage.
-
My new band is at the pre-gig 'what shall we call ourselves?' stage, so I'm after some Basschat collective wisdom for ideas. The general style is really laid back, funky versions of soul/90s R&B/pop tracks. Waaay outside my previous experience. Some of the set list tracks are: Here's a clip from last night's rehearsal to give you an idea of style. For those of you like me, who will be wanting to know - Sandberg Cali VM5 -> HX Stomp -> Ashdown RM 500 -> GR Bass 2 x 10. All ideas welcome, they've got to be better than mine! Cheers, Andy
-
I quite fancy swapping the pickup covers on my Cali VM5 to a cream colour. I've checked the sandberg online store, and googling also hasn't turned up any useful results. Does anyone know of somewhere to get them? Cheers!

Bought a zoom recorder from Martin. Super easy Another great basschatter to deal with, cheers!

Supremely amicable. We knew that 2023 was going to be the last year due to geographical differences. So we booked all of our favourites venues and had a bloody whale of a time. Played some of our best shows and went out on a real high after 13 years. We're all still good mates, the WhatsApp group is still lively and we're all meeting up in Coniston in August for a bit of a reunion set at a little local mini festival.
-
Thanks! I've actually just had a couple of rehearsals with a new bunch that is looking promising. From the video, I'm sure your mate won't have any trouble filling the bass chair. Andy

Absolutely this. After 13 years with a great group of sane, reliable band mates I've been looking for something new. It's wild out there! I'm due for the third rehearsal with a new bunch this week. It looks promising, but there's no way I'm counting any chickens yet.
