  1. I think the band want a name that fits all of us, not just me.......
  2. @AndyTravis yeah. Not sure if it works with everything else yet. We're still at the pre gig-filter 'try everything and see what sticks' stage.
  3. My new band is at the pre-gig 'what shall we call ourselves?' stage, so I'm after some Basschat collective wisdom for ideas. The general style is really laid back, funky versions of soul/90s R&B/pop tracks. Waaay outside my previous experience. Some of the set list tracks are: Here's a clip from last night's rehearsal to give you an idea of style. For those of you like me, who will be wanting to know - Sandberg Cali VM5 -> HX Stomp -> Ashdown RM 500 -> GR Bass 2 x 10. All ideas welcome, they've got to be better than mine! Cheers, Andy
  4. I quite fancy swapping the pickup covers on my Cali VM5 to a cream colour. I've checked the sandberg online store, and googling also hasn't turned up any useful results. Does anyone know of somewhere to get them? Cheers!
  5. Bought a zoom recorder from Martin. Super easy Another great basschatter to deal with, cheers!
  6. Supremely amicable. We knew that 2023 was going to be the last year due to geographical differences. So we booked all of our favourites venues and had a bloody whale of a time. Played some of our best shows and went out on a real high after 13 years. We're all still good mates, the WhatsApp group is still lively and we're all meeting up in Coniston in August for a bit of a reunion set at a little local mini festival.
  7. Thanks! I've actually just had a couple of rehearsals with a new bunch that is looking promising. From the video, I'm sure your mate won't have any trouble filling the bass chair. Andy
  8. Absolutely this. After 13 years with a great group of sane, reliable band mates I've been looking for something new. It's wild out there! I'm due for the third rehearsal with a new bunch this week. It looks promising, but there's no way I'm counting any chickens yet.
  9. Super smooth transaction with Paul. I can only echo everything else on this thread. Another top basschatter to deal with. Enjoy the cab.
  10. Another happy buyer here. Bought a cab from Dave at a great price, speedy shipping and superb comms all round. Perfect!
  11. Bought used as a 'just in case' and never needed. Good used condition. No box/PSU etc. Collect from M33, or postage available at cost.
  12. Get your bass out and for some weird reason it's not in tune? Even though it was when you put it away? Then you need this Korg Pitchblack XS tuning pedal! Boxed with instructions. Used maybe once or twice, in excellent condition. Big, bright display, ideal for those with fading eyesight such as myself. No box or PSU. Collect from M33 or postage at cost.
  13. They don't make 'em like this any more! No, really, they don't. TKS get a lot of well deserved love round here and getting this cab showed me why. Such a brilliant cab, but it's way too much overkill for my current needs so it's time to move it on. Bought from @wayne58 of this parish about 3 years ago and looked after since. It's in superb condition. Sounds massive, big & clear with that elusive 'heft' (of course YMMV). Also looks the business with a lovely dark, dark oxblood cloth. Comes with TKS padded cover, also in VGC. Specs are: Impedance: 4 Ω Power handling (high average power test signal): 500 W RMS Recommended amplifier power: 100-600W RMS @ 4 Ω Sensitivity[average]: 102 dB SPL @ 1 W/1 m Sensitivity[100Hz]: 100 dB SPL @ 1 W/1 m Sensitivity[max]: 105 dB SPL @ 2,3 kHz, 1 W/1 m Frequency response (-10db): 42 Hz - 4,8 kHz Displacement: 516 cm³ Measurements (WxHxD): 52x76x40 cm Weight: 21 kg All this for a rather bargainous £450. Collection from Sale, South Manchester much preferred, complete with trial and tea/coffee/beer/gear chat. A meet up within about an hour's drive is doable too. If you want to arrange a courier, that's fine as well, but sourcing packaging might take me a little while. Pics: And a little bit of video. Clickety click.
  14. Bought a HX stomp from Stefan after he responded to my wanted ad. Another stellar advert for the lovely people on Basschat. Tip top comms, speedy postage and a great deal overall. Highly recommended.
  15. Odd, I play a vm5 with the P pickup slightly favoured on the blend knob and whenever I hear live recordings I always think it sounds quite mid forward! Of course YMMV. Possibly because my picking hand rests quite close to the bridge?
  16. At the risk of derailing this thread, I've not been to Stubborn Mule yet, any good?
  17. If this is Al you're talking about then seconded. He does excellent backdrops, banners and bass drum heads too.
  18. Thanks Dave. We're stopping for a couple of reasons. The drummer has moved to Coniston, a 4 hour round trip for gigs. The guitarist now really suffers the day after a gig, it pretty much a write off for him, so he fancies a break too. I'm hopeful for a new band, but it's one of a few hobbies for me, so I only gig once a month. Most of the bands I've had contact with want more than that. It's just a case of finding one where we're all on the same page.
  19. Probably my last post here for a while. Last night was the final Jump The Shark gig after 13 years. As I've been reading on other threads, finding a new band is tricky, and I've been incredibly lucky with this one. We finished at our favourite venue, it was packed and they were dancing from the start. A load of our mates had come along and the atmosphere was brilliant. We played well. Very, very well. Everyone found an extra gear. Sound was good, we were really cooking. And then. Halfway through set 2, a drunken punter tripped over the monitor and knocked the singer's mic right into her face. At first we thought it was a broken cheekbone. Fortunately not, but she had a big cut just above her eye, a pounding head and the beginnings of a quality shiner. Gig over. Not the way we envisaged finishing. Everyone was incredibly frustrated, but nothing we could do. No way we could finish the set as none of the rest of us could hold a vocal well enough. Bugger. Anyway, videos from before the stoppage. Gear report - Ibanez SMS 1005, Ashdown RM 500, TKS 212 VID-20231210-WA0008.mp4 VID-20231210-WA0006.mp4 VID-20231210-WA0005.mp4
  20. I had this, but from people who messaged me first! They responded to my ad, I replied and then..... nothing. Including the one who said "we're finding it really hard to get a bass player who we can rely on". Wonder why?
  21. Saw that and on JMB and wondered if it was you. Good luck fella. I'm on the hunt for a new gig as my current one is coming to an end, so I've probably had the same messages as you. I've been spoiled with this band and had forgotten how hard it is to find others who are on the same page musically and commitment level wise. How picky do you get with this? I'm not sure if I'm turning down decent opportunities waiting for a great one and will end up with nothing. Hmmm......
  22. The drummer and I use in ears. Singer & guitarist don't like them. With only one gig left before the band wraps up that's not going to change. I'm looking for a new gig, but I'd really like to just turn up & play for a bit, rather than be chief gig getter, pa wrangler etc. That barefaced is fab, for me the TKS takes up a bit more sonic space, if that makes sense. If I could combine the barefaced's size & weight with the TKS' sound.......
  23. Cheers, it's a great cab, I'd love it to be a wee bit smaller & lighter but I'm not for swapping. The mixer on cab situation is born of necessity. I need to be able to make on the fly adjustments and it's the easiest place for access. As for cables everywhere, the less said about that the better...... 🤐🤐🤐
  24. Penultimate Jump the Shark gig was a weird one. The Railway in Royton, usually a great gig. It was busy (not as packed as usual) but the crowd didn't seem as into it as normal. As a consequence we never really got into the top gear you find when you're getting a great reaction. Sound gremlins meant I had half an ear out for feedback all night too, which probably affected my ability to relax and properly enjoy it. Rig was my Ibanez sms1005, Ashdown RM 500 and TKS 212, which sounded reliably great.
  25. A couple of nibbles but nothing serious so giving this a little bump.
