Thanks, I hoped it hasn’t seemed like showboating though - just thought it may have been of interest

to see what being in a theatre band was like. All through my time doing this I’ve also kept playing pubs,

cafes and private gigs ( mainly with my duo), so I’ve always loved the contrast between the two scenarios.

Doing the smaller gigs has meant I’ve never taken the wonderful old theatres for granted, and I will miss

    playing them a lot.

( Tonight though I’m in an ordinary town pub on the outskirts of Hull playing requests for a small and often

    inebriated crowd. 😆

Never seemed like showboating to me Pete, your gig reviews have always been great imo, especially when including things like the long hours on the road afterwards, something that can often be forgotten about, details like these made the reviews nicely balanced.

  2. I’m a recent convert to short scale basses (Mustangs). As well as the weight reduction which was the primary reason for switching I’ve found that they just really suit me, the sound, the practicality of having smaller lighter case to cart about/fit in the car, everything. Sure not every instrument will be right for everyone but those that say short scales are rubbish & dead, well that may be the case for them but certainly not for me.

  3. The other thing I’ve found is that if it has the three foldable legs position it in front of you as in the Y shape. Then if someone comes flying forwards into it it goes to either the left or the right due to the leg that’s pointing at you.  Whereas if you position it like an upside down Y it hits you straight in the face.

How come you’ve decided to part ways with all of these @Lozz196?

I was encouraged reading about how much they’ve been helping you with your back/shoulder issues.

What a fantastic set of basses.

Sadly it’s due to arthritis in the knuckle on my left thumb, reducing neck width to Jazz dimensions really helps so I’m still Mustang as they do really help with the back issues, I’m just MIJ rather than JMJ now.

Teenage Kicks. Eulogized by the sort of psueds that make up the Later With Jools Holland audience, I could pick a dozen better songs from The Undertones.

I have to agree, whilst I don’t dislike Teenage Kicks there are much better songs from The Undertones, You’ve Got My Number, Wednesday Week, Julie Ocean to name a few which are all quite different showing just how good a band they were.

  8. Just got in from a Spacewasters rehearsal, going through 3 songs for recording tomorrow. Used my fave Precision as figure best to record with the instrument you play best. Went well, all sounding good. Then we get the call that it’s had to get cancelled due to the engineer having a family problem. Shame but we’ll reschedule.

Edit - I should also point out that a full scale bass (both weight & size) really isn’t the right choice for me now, and although my Precision is my fave bass in all honesty my Mustangs suit the sound of the band better.

  9. For me it was Ashdowns ABM amps. I’d heard them being used and the people using them always had them set to that warm mushy “woolly” sound so I’d never bothered with them figuring that was all they did. But at a gig the provided rig was an ABM500 and matching 2x15. Precision & Sansamp plugged in I was amazed at the depth of sound available, and dare I say the H-word, heft coming from it. It wasn’t far short from the same Precision & Sansamp through a full Ampeg fridge set up.

We hear this phrase a lot, but I don't think there was any hiding. People knew what was going on, maybe not the general public, but certainly within the industry, and as long as the perpetrators were bringing in the money the behaviour was tolerated.

Good point, from what I understand was the same as with Saville

  11. Great song, we started doing it a couple of months ago, got a really good groove/feel to it. And that break-out part, well it showed me where Is it Just Me by The Darkness may well have got its inspiration from, Dan Hawkins being a major TL fan.

  12. Pretty much the same as the above post. I missed out on the item that Ander bought but Rhys messaged me about another one he was selling so the deal was done. Good comms throughout and swift delivery.
