  1. I’ve had pretty much the full range from Squier Affinity up to Fender US Deluxe/Ultra. All were perfectly good, and imo ascended up to the US made ones. The Deluxe/Ultra, great basses they were, were imo Deluxe/Ultra due to the added active circuitry which I didn’t really use, so the peak for me was the US Standards.

So if I had £1000/£1500 available to spend on a Fender I’d put the money to a US Standard, my fave range of those being the 2013-16 ones with Custom Shop pickups. Sure I could get a Mex Player or Vintera and change pickups and have a great bass, but for me the US Standards are the best.

I’ve briefly played Custom Shop Fenders - a Precision and a Strat - and they were easily the best instruments I’ve ever played, though I don’t think I’d ever shell out that amount on an instrument.

Perhaps joking, or perhaps not, Matty Healy pronounces himself ‘the greatest songwriter of my generation’ – and that’s only a slightly ridiculous statement"

It must be irony, I don’t think he’s the best songwriter in the portaloo when he’s the only one in it

  3. Just seen Olivia Rodrigo do a song called Brutal, which sounded a lot like Pump It Up by Elvis Costello, so did a google and turns out he was more than happy with it and said no legal action - fair play Elvis!

Catching up with Inhalers set now. My favourite bass tone of the festival so far - I really need to get a p bass.

Edit - he's now pulled out the gold Jack Casady which also sounds fantastic and is making me think maybe it's actually the Ampeg behind him that I want.

Yeah great tone, going by the burst looked like a 70s Precision, but whatever, sounded great.

The Libertines are looking (and sounding) a bit fat and middle-aged aren't they? They need to go to the gym or, probably more likely, get back on the gear.

Nothing reduces the waistline quite like a habit!

  6. Shared back-line in many cases is cabs only/bring your own amp head, as a lot of bands don`t like others using their amps. I`ve been in originals bands for years and this is pretty much the norm, unless full back-line provided by the venue.

Having a pre-amp pedal can work nicely if there is either an amp already there that you can use, or if not, good monitoring with the option of going straight to the PA. I tend to take both amp and pedal (my pre-amp/DI is a Behringer BDI21 which costs about £30 so not a huge outlay).

I think given that you loved the Orange Terror go with that or the Little Bass Thing.

Not going myself but id recommend people check out my cousin's band GIRLBAND!

3 piece rock band from Nottingham. Their recorded stuff really doesn't do them justice because they are incredible live!

Just checked them out on YouTube, think you’re right there’s an extra energy in the live stuff. Singer has a great voice, very distinctive.

  8. I also have another reason for not gigging my fave/best bass, as my back has got rotten I can now only play lighter weight short-scale basses, so a 10lb Precision doesn`t work for me anymore. But as said I play it stacks at home so it`s not being wasted, but even if I were no longer able to do that it has too much sentimental value to move on.

  9. I`m not that fussed about damage to my basses - they`re Fenders so not too much that can seriously do them in, it`s more if someone stole them. I`d be annoyed if any of them got nicked but my fave, well if that went walkies it would make me seriously unhappy hence why I don`t gig it.
