1. Thanks! It's one of the MiK pro Series basses that Thomann were selling off at under half price a few years ago. I took a bit of a gamble since the MiG I'd tried previously had all been completely underwhelming considering their price tag. However, to my knowledge the Starbass is the only long-scale 5-string semi hollow bass in production, so my options were pretty limited. Luckily it has turned out to be a great instrument, although if I'm being completely honest the Gus basses are far more comfortable to play. Cool, yes I can't think of another with a long scale and a B string, I think it is a given that it will not be as comfy as many basses but that is the compromise, same as the double bass, awkward thing that makes your hands and arms ache but well it is cool! A definite big thumbs up from me on that one.
2. Just the gap between the pillars for the drums and where these ladies are sat, even the footrest will be in the way. I don't think the double bass will be going to this gig, so that's the setlist messed up too.
3. 4 piece band in there?!
4. We have a gig booked for Saturday, it's not much a gig place but it's christmas and it's £400 between 4 of us. Guitarist has been for a look, we played there a while ago in another area which was tight but the LL has managed to get a big food group for that area, works doo I imagine, so he wants us here, next to the bar, quiet as possible, finish at 11 instead of 12 for £300, we're thinking sack it off? None of us need it, we approached them to fill another that we cancelled (in a 10 foot teepee at the top of a grass slope!), we have a lot of people coming but frankly I'd probably them not see us with a reduced drum kit, active monitors as the PA I think is all we could fit in, we don't even think the singer will be able to have a mic stand! No way we will get all the backing vocal mics up. Looks a bit crap all round to me?
5. Have you had a look inside? I wonder if the jack socket contact needs a little bending back into place or maybe a good squirt of servisol spraying through the pots and jack socket?
6. Nice, Merry christmas!
7. Dougie from McFly has bloody loads of the things!
8. That Warwick is super dooper BRX, awesome. I've never seen one before.
9. No problem, I'm just waiting for the ink to dry.....
10. I suspect most of their profit was made on bottled drinks sold via the big super markets anyway?
11.
Absolutely. I played a gig last week where we were paid £250 and only ten people turned up. I say turned up; they were already there and they didn't leave. I don't imagine the pub made too much money that night.
Yep, we've got one on Saturday, we will have a few regulars of our own as they don't get to see us at the function/wedding stuff (I have just been informed by text as I am typing that loads of our people are coming?), the rest of the people will be people that were going there to eat anyway, the idea is that we keep them in there after to spend a few quid. I think it is a £400 gig, if the pub makes 50p on each drink sold after bar staff wages electric bill, cleaners etc etc then they will need to sell 800 EXTRA drinks on top of what they would sell without a band on, I would imagine it will hold 100 people maybe a few more if it was rammed, that's 8 drinks each. I know why I have no interest in running a pub!
12. Deal! Pm me all your bank details, date of birth, mothers maiden name etc etc and I'll pop it right in
13. Ha, I've seen that on eBay, £1500 postage?!
14. Too late in looking for inca silver ones already! I hold you fully responsible both financially and emotionally
15. My Fender is a bit of a plank compared to my Rays but I swap between them now I'm used to both, I don't think I have a preference either way now.
16. That's not going to help anyone with gas for a Stingray is it? Can you give everyone a warning next time please
17.
Wasn't a British bloke a member of Blondie at one point?
That was my initial thought.
18. Exactly, we've seen my "they're playing your guitars in there" thread!
19. It's just the way it is, I wouldn't have heard of many of the custom makes without Basschat, I know loads of fifty year old guys that have bought a Fender or had one bought for them as a birthday present, some haven't been played since.
20. You know I never noticed the string spacing being tight on the SR305! Maybe there's more to it than the spacing? I think it's just what you get used to anyway, I remember the Stingray five feeling weird compared to my fours, now when I play one it just feels like wasted space between the strings!
21. The thing is regardless of wether some folk on here wouldn't touch a fender they do still have a desirability factor of that F logo, the resale on custom basses is terrible too unless you wait forty years, A GB Spitfire would be a better bass than most if not all Fenders but it will also loose a lot of value, used ones on this site are around £1300-1500, half it's new value, I've seen Shukers for £500. Then there's the wait for a custom build.
22. How much profit has been made by paying a band more than the extra bottom line has increased compared to a Saturday night without a band?
23. Ibanez SR series gets my vote, cracking basses for not much money.
24.
Not so true these days. Fender let their reputation slide for far too long, but since about 2008 they have raised their game.
I know,I've got one, I wouldn't have bought it without trying it first though.
