  1. And the icing on the cake: Anyone know the song that Gene can't get?
  2. I got to my local shop about 11am. Got the Opeth release? Sorry, sold it. It? yeah we only got one. That'll teach me to have a lie in! (Got it later online from Rough Trade at the 6pm online release) I'll be one the ball for next time: Jon Anderson, Magma, St Vincent
  3. That was the original intention, maybe I should have been more obvious! Here's another to get us back on track. You may think you're cool but you're no Carol Kaye (no further specification needed) Keep them coming (bass players preferred).
  4. I've just accepted offer "Grab 80% off variable eBay selling fees (excludes 30p order-level fees)". Erm, thanks?
  5. Except pipe and curly lead, as previously established.
  6. Bonus cravat points.
  7. ...but you're no Tony Levin with a Baby Bass through a Portaflex with a curly lead, sporting sideys, Burt Reynolds tash, a short sleeve turtle neck and medallion. (happy birthday TLev recently. Image borrowed from https://tonylevin.com/road-diaries/looking-back/pictures-from-way-back) Keep them coming.
  8. I get ads like crazy when watching youtube on my phone. The algorithm they have for working out a suitable pause in the broadcast to break for an ad is hilariously bad. On my desktop PC (probably because I'm signed into google elsewhere), no ads. But also I have Adblock Plus installed.
  9. I've just watched the Jinjer video, then a few reaction videos (some of which have great insight and/or comedy). The band really missed a trick by not calling themselves The Spanish Inquisition.
  10. I'm slowly coming around to Cookie Monster Opeth - it's gone from "turn off" to "laugh at" to "hang on there's some pretty good music under there", which I'm still moving in the right direction from. Also I've got an new Opeth T-shirt in pink which is nice. Otherwise Magma, Tool and assorted scandanavian prog and jazz are sitting happily at the "difficult" end of the spectrum at the moment (varying the definition of "heavy" a bit). Also, speaking of which, Panzerballett:
  11. Double-neck bass/guitar, Moog Taurus pedals
  12. I went to see Kate Bush in 2014, one of my favourite gigs of all time. I got curious about one of John Giblin's basses, turns out after some investigation it was a Takamine TB-10. I ended up buying that very bass (the longer version of the story is elsewhere on basschat) Do I think I'll sound like John Giblin? Nope. Is it a connection to an incredible memory and subsequent events? More like it. A bit of a collectors item? a little bit.
  13. Ten Years Gone x9 Custard Pie
  14. I did a bit of a Google around "silent bass" and "invisible bass" but didn't find anything relevant. I'm going to go with consensus of "it's not a bass" and put it down to excess pizza, Nero d'Avola and Moretti.
  15. Thanks for your insight. Any idea about that Ukrainian guy's bass though?
  16. Can anyone id the bass in the Ukrainian entry? Try not to get to distracted by the Discs of Tron/penny whistle/fraggle dress combination
  17. Wondered if this was going to be about this...
  18. Adam Ben Ezra?
  19. I've got one and it's one of my favourites. This P&E demo with JMJ is fun. Low on tech content and high on "whoa dude cool" but there we go. Probably doesn't answer the gated question either
  20. I've just enjoyed a re-run of the Classic Albums episode about Peter Gabriel's 'So' with contributions from Tony Levin and Larry Klein.
  21. Have we covered From Cradle To Stage yet? Dave Grohl's mum interviews the mums of other famouses. Episode 6 is Geddy Lee! (and mum). See https://www.techradar.com/uk/news/how-to-watch-from-cradle-to-stage-on-paramount-plus-free-and-from-anywhere - but it's on MTV from Thursday if you're appropriately equipped (I've got it on my Sky Box). Two or three "who?" in the list, which looks like this: May 6: Dan Reynolds (of Imagine Dragons) and Christene Reynolds May 13: Pharrell and Dr. Carolyn Williams May 20: Miranda and Bev Lambert May 27: Brandi and Teresa Carlile June 3: Tom Morello (of Rage Against the Machine) and Mary Morello June 10: Geddy Lee (of Rush) and Mary Weinrib
  22. What's the breakdown of that? For big value items (ie will sell for >£10!) I list things on "£1 fees" days
  23. Just wondering the same, but see this vid about 6 minutes in
  24. The Gates of Delirium, filed in the wrong place
