2. Ha ha. Wish is the only CD album I have. I remember picking that up because I heard Friday I'm In Love and thought that was good, but the whole album is so much better. That makes me feel better that I missed them at their second best in 2016 though. Thanks.
3. I'm just watching the Lollapalooza gig from 2013 on You Tube. Bloody marvellous stuff. Love Gabrels guitar work on Wrong Number. I watched 2 hour documentary The Cure Play Out last night. Fascinating stuff.
4. The Cure kind of passed me by at a time when I should have been probably paying more attention. I just wasn't into their thing at the time I guess. I spent most of my time listening to Alice Cooper, Kiss, Genesis, Rush etc But now I have time on my hands, as is often the case, I get hooked on an artist I missed and voraciously devour everything I can find by them. I was a bit gutted to find that not only have they not done much live stuff this year, that they also did quite a large tour in 2016 and there is nothing planned for 2018 apart from Hyde Park which will be there only European date. At 2018 is their 40th Anniversary year. That can't be right can it? I'm starting on amassing my The Cure collection. What do I have to look forward to?
5. I don't need to lie down. I've only just got up.
6. Oh dear. There is no hope for you. The only way they'll stop doing it is if people stop clicking on them. The YYZ one had something like 140k views! Beggars belief.
7. Talentless? Well, perhaps he's right about something then.
8. I don't know why it keeps popping up on my You Tube feed as I haven't mistakenly clicked on one for a long time, but I noticed a 'reaction video' for the Rush song YYZ keeps appearing. I presume the sole purpose of this type of video is to make money from the amount of views as I can't think of a reason for them being there otherwise. It's not like any of them have any formalised critique of what they are being 'exposed' to as I presume the whole point of them is to capture exactly that moment. I hope they pay well as it seems a completely pointless exercise to me. Or am I missing something?
9. I had a noodle on this one today and IMHO it's a truly lovely example of Fodera's expertise. Stop on by for a test drive.
10. I found myself in Waterstones yesterday and saw a large table full of piles of books titled "1001 ??????? to see/hear/eat/visit/etc Before You Die". The people that create these books/lists seem to be making a decent living from compiling them. It's all a bit Emperor's New Clothes to me.
11. Apologies, I meant to post those details with the photo's, but I forgot. This should have all the information you require.
12. This going to sound terribly cliched, but I wouldn't be selling this if I I didn't have a new bathroom to pay for. Bump for a truly wonderful and extremely versatile example of Brooklyn's finest.
13.
I'm guessing this is the list? https://www.standard.co.uk/goingout/music/the-20-greatest-british-rock-bands-of-all-time-a3655391.html On The Cure: "From the the stark and intense nature of albums like 1982’s Pornography, through to the more flamboyant and playful records like Wish, Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me and Disintegration" Surely this has been written by someone who has never listened to the dark and not-at-all-flamboyant-or-playful Disentegration album.
Yes, sorry. I meant to put the link in and forgot. I really like The Cure and personally would put them in above The Stone Roses. All a matter of taste I guess, but no Genesis or Marillion either and the absence of Motörhead is just plain wrong.
14.
Goes without saying IRON MAIDEN!!!
Definitely. I would be inclined to replace Super Furry Animals with Deep Purple, Cream or Iron Maiden any day of the week 😀
15. Should make blue happy, but the other 19 have a few notable omissions. Makes no mention of how this 'greatness' was measured, so I guess it's in someone's humble opinion. Who would you kick off the list and who would you put in their place?
16.
I'm out of the loop here, in what way has Ahmet transgressed?
Ha. That's a can of worms if ever there was one. Let's just say things deteriorated to the point where Dweezil was prevented from touring under the name "Zappa Plays Zappa". From Wikipedia.... Following the death of Zappa's mother, Gail, in October 2015, it was revealed that his siblings Ahmet and Diva were given control of the Zappa Family Trust with shares of 30% each, while Dweezil and his sister Moon were given smaller shares of 20% each. As beneficiaries only, Moon and Dweezil will not see any money from the trust until it is profitable—in 2016, it was "millions of dollars in debt" —and must seek permission from Ahmet, the trustee, to make money off of their father's music or merchandise bearing his name. Zappa received a cease-and-desist letter from the trust after he announced that he was being forced to perform his upcoming tour as “Dweezil Zappa Plays Frank Zappa” instead of using “Zappa Plays Zappa.” In response to the trust’s action, he renamed his performance series “50 Years of Frank: Dweezil Zappa Plays Whatever the F@%k He Wants — the Cease and Desist Tour.”
17.
I love Civilization Phaze III... it's not an easy listen but I think it has some amazing stuff on it. I'd rank it along side the Yellow Shark as Zappa's last great work, following some fairly duff albums in the 80s. I won't be buying any more Zappa stuff though. Ahmet's recent behaviour seems fairly reprehensible from what I've read and I'm not giving him any of my money. Also, there is so much stuff online already, I don't feel the need to buy any more tbh... Glad your enjoying it though! Arf!
Civilization Phaze III is fine, but as you say it's not an easy listen. I certainly can't put than on when there's anyone else in the house without getting complaints and it wouldn't be in my top ten Zappa albums. The Yellow Shark is fantastic though. I absolutely love that album. You're right, there's a lot of Zappa stuff on-line. I have a whole hard drive chock full of bootlegs, more than I could probably listen to in a year, but I just can't help myself. If they were sloppily produced and massively overpriced, I would probably steer clear, but they're not IMHO. As far as I am aware, Joe Travers is still the Vaultmeister and as well as being a great drummer, he has helped put together a lot of great releases. I console myself that whatever the misgivings of the persons at the helm of the ZFT, I'm helping to keep Joe in a job 😀
18. Just having my first proper listen the triple CD from the final show of '77 Halloween residency and it really is a cracker. The band is super tight. Adrian Belew wrote the liner notes and gives a great snapshot of what it was like to be part of Frank's touring band. He remarks that remembers seeing very little of New York when playing the NYC Palladium at Halloween. If they weren't eating or sleeping, they were rehearsing (for 2 to 3 hours which were actually thinly veiled recording sessions) or playing one of the two three hour shows per day. That's hardcore.
19. SOLD A truly stunning bass with a lovely neck profile and low action. Similarly lovely balance. Weight as stated by my bathroom scales is 9lb. Complete with it's original Fodera tear drop hard case and fitted with Dunlop flush mounted strap locks, as most Fodera's are. It's also in fantastic condition, although there is a tiny mark on the front face, as you may be able to see from the close-up. I would very much prefer a personal handover for this one. I'm based in south Essex. EDIT: Although handover preferred, I will ship the bass within the UK at cost to buyer.
20.
I wonder what Frank would make of the current family feud between his kids? I'm not a Zappa completest but a fan who does own nearly all the 2012 reissues. Some of the older CDs have mixes that sound terrible so I was glad they remixed the whole back catalogue!
Yes, quite. This is a very informative web site for deciding which versions of the many albums to look for.... http://www.lukpac.org/~handmade/patio/vinylvscds/index.html
21. Amidst my excitement of seeing this release I notice that seem to have overlooked a 2016 release - 'ZAPPAtite: Frank Zappa's Tastiest Tracks'. This is the sort of pap that gets the ZFT bad press. Who in their right mind would buy this? There is nothing original on it. In fact, they are all standard versions, apart from Yellow Snow, which is the single edit. I do not think Frank would have approved 😬
22. I am a Zappa completist. There aren't many albums I have a bad word to say about (ahem, Civilization Phaze III anyone?). There are albums I prefer above others obviously, but I relish anything new being released. I have the '77 gigs in bootleg form already, but all six '77 Halloween shows are being released in full by the ZFT. I know, they're milking Frank's legacy for all it's worth, but I just love this stuff. The 3CD from the final night is already available on CD and the rest is available on download. A special Halloween memory stick set will be released with all the shows on it. Love Patrick O'Hearn's work on this tour. The rest of the band were Adrian Belew, Terry Bozzio, Ed Mann, Tommy Mars & Peter Wolf. Have a Happy Safe Halloween. Music is The Best.
23. Back for it's 12th year, The Last Resort is an annual show event through which local musicians donate their time in order to raise money. This year our beneficiary will be The Lord's Taverners who are the UK's leading youth cricket and disability sports charity. The 2017 show boasts six lead vocal sets, plus a finale section. The lead vocals sets are Pop, Brit Pop, R'n'B, Musicals, Rock'n'Roll & Diva's. The Finale is a tribute to lost icons of music. It's a great night out which is always well attended. Please come along if you can. Here are some clips from previous shows.... http://youtu.be/C1lpT3Y4AMY http://youtu.be/Ke2KE7R2mo4 http://youtu.be/jh4Xg8F54_U http://youtu.be/RSgPuxYru60 Tickets available here. P.S. It's the programme that's £3, not the tickets!
