1.
He was double jointed!
That's actually the shadow puppet hand shape for 2 swans facing away from each other.
2. Thanks fellas, I've already done the badass manouvre, and that definitely made a difference, cheers David. Peter, those newtone strings sound interesting, I'll give them a go. Setup wise I'm pretty confident with setting up basses and I can usually get a bass just how I like it, however I think the bass could actually do with a fretdress as it seems it's got a couple of high frets around the 4th/5th fret area. I'll call upon my luthier friend to have a look!
3. I guess the title says it all! I'm after some advice from people that have MIM jazz basses or know anything about making them better. I inherited a MIM Jazz bass a couple of years ago and it's never sounded very good or played that well either. I'm never going to sell the bass because of the sentiment attached to it, but I want to make the most of it as I could make good use out of a semi-nice jazz bass. I'm willing to gut the electronics and maybe stick in some Nordstrands, but would those be wasted on this bass? I'd like to keep it passive. Anyone got any suggestions on the pickup/electronics side of thing? The second and slightly trickier issue to tackle is the playability of this bass. I want to keep it in standard tuning and use it mainly for funk and jazz. Anyone got any suggestions for string gauge, brands of strings or tips on setup of a MIM jazz? I've tried different gauges of d'addarios on this bass and had some EMG J's in it for a while, but the EMG's sounded pretty dull. Any suggestions would be helpful because I'd like to make the most of this bass. Cheers Ed
4. These pics make me want a G&L!
5. £2000!!? You could get 2 new ones for that. that aside... i like it a lot and I'd be interested to see it with a clear scratch plate.
6. Is the bass whammy really that sought after? Anyone on here got one?
7. Bump!
All I have ever said is "Four figures"
This kind of figures?
9.
Well lets face it....lets question why I created this thread. Ive let this run a few days, and either way,I dont mind how it goes. But it proves that there IS support for seperation, which I believe or at least hope comes from a genuine interest and need felt,AND upon the flipside, acceptance, saying YES they are Bassguitars, next generation musical technology, which we want to see more of,and learn from. Which is a good thing regardless of where anyone stands.
Perhaps you could start your own forum ARGH? You've clearly got bags of passion about ERB's, you'd be just the man for the job! I voted no to starting up an ERB section in this forum because I don't think it's busy enough here to warrant it.
10. This is a heads up on behalf of a friend of mine. His online store is currently selling a few things on ebay and there are some potential bargains to be had. Fender Jazz 24 in cherry sunburst Fender Jazz 24 in tobacco sunburst Warwick FNA Jazzman Warwick Streamer Stage 1 Fender USA P-bass Fender Bassman HD 250 with 4x10 and 1x15 cabs http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZsoundunltd If anyones got any questions about any of these items then PM me Thanks Ed
11. This is my fretless made of (almost) everything black! It's now got an EMG j-set in it so it's even blacker.
12.
...I've been saving my player points, but unfortunately the freebies are a bit pants
The wooden stools they do are quite nice but they work better as little tables!
13. Your GAS will get worse ten-fold by using this forum! What's that bass in your avatar? Some kind of fenderbird?
14. Nice one! That looks awesome.
15.
I think we are the only ones! I had an arguement with a kid in my class about him 'He can't play bass, he arrogant, up his arse and hes an idiot who i'd happily wipe of my shoe' 'Yeah, but he's hot so i don't care. AND HE IS THE BEST BASSIST EVER OLOL!!!!1111' Thats pretty much how it went. 'AND HE IS THE BEST BASSIST EVER' I hate it when the mini moshers say that. It makes me cringe.
So you're not into clean-cut mediocrity? Get out! Pete Wentz is the bestest LOLZ!!111
16.
Squire are improving though, and to be honest, I doubt he plays the production model anyway, it'll just be money making gimmick.

Best thing any one has ever said him the little c*nt Mike Dirnt sig one looks cooler!
The Dirnt Squire is great too, it's got a really nice feel to it and sounds good too.
17. I like these basses a lot and would buy one as a back up for my 70's P if it wasn't for that hideous bat thing on the body.
18. Quit making your life hard and buy a nice old Fender P and be done with it
19.
Same here onstage, but in the studio its a totally different arena. Ive tried Ibanez and warwicks...numerous stuff, but the Fender sound just...well it fits, they are bulky, heavy, and crude...but they work, and engineers smile when they come out of the case.
My 70's P always sounds great in the studio, with minimal mucking around with things. My Warwick's on the other hand take a lot more work.
20. bump!
21.
Some lovely old P tone courtesy of QOTSA: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Dy56iQd6Jg
Tone! I sometimes get stuck in a rut with the sound of my P-bass and go off it a bit but that changes very quickly after listening to a spot of his filthy tone.
22. nice one!
23.
You can love your Fenders but, in my opinion Lakland, Shuker, Sadowsky, Alleva Coppolo and dozens of other companies consistently make far better Precision basses than Leo ever did.
So what is the "definitive" precision bass? Fender P's (especially the older ones) have got this kind of charisma that no-one's come close to copying IMO.
24. I believe both statements to be true. I'm trying to think of other things that have been invented and not changed much at all because they were just great to begin with... having no luck... Anyway, if it aint broke don't fix it.
25.
Hey Thumbo glad it went well - slightly relieved would have felt a bit daft if you had a mare - anyway this way maybe I get ocome and see you playing bass in a country band wearing a tutu - never thought I'd hear myself uttering those words in the sequence!
Cheers mate!
