  1. Have a pint in Mother Mac's and get a glimpse of what pubs used to be like.
  2. I've been practising different ways of playing blues turnarounds. I use blues as kind of a safe refuge when I'm a bit demotivated by playing in my function band. Like the challenge of trying (and failing obviously) to be inventive within a relatively limited structure.
  3. "Crossing the border" to Essex! I live in Planet Thanet mate we consider a trip to Canterbury to be a major undertaking. Thanks again everyone. I'll chase up those ones in Canterbury.
  4. Blimey it comes to something when the most serious advice comes from BBC!
  5. Cheers for the advice guys. I've done a google search and found absolutely nothing. Ho hum a lifetime of Hi Ho Silver Lining and I'm A Believer awaits.
  6. Obviously a thriving blues scene in the Kent delta then lol!
  7. Does anyone know of any blues jams in Kent? I feel the need to escape the "horror" of my function band and return to my "roots" man. Cheers.
  8. I liked it, although I liked the dancing more.
  9. Wish I suffered from lack of soul/overdose of technique like that! In 25 years of playing I haven't got any further than throwing in a few blues scale licks here and there, although in fairness I probably stand more chance of getting rebooked at the Dog and Patridge on a Friday night, an ambition Billy might never fulfil I fear.
  10. Blimey! When I see things like that it makes me realise what a limited, meat and potatoes bass player I am. It also makes me realise that (sadly) I kind of see myself as a bass player with a "tradtional role" rather than a musician first and foremost (if you see what I mean). Mind you it also makes me realise that I'm still most impressed by great bass playing within great songs e.g. Mr Jamerson. Just my perosnal taste I guess.
  11. He sounds like the sort of unsung fellow who plays on loads of great songs and comes up with tons of inventive lines, yet virtually no-one has heard of him. Ironic considering some of the bass players who are almost household names.
  12. Thanks for that brilliant stuff. Wasn't that bassline supposed to be Jamerson's personal favourite?
  13. Blimey there's service! Nice one. Perhaps we could cut out the middle man and he could come and play it for me. Will PM. Thanks again.
  14. Does anyone have a decent tab for Love Really Hurts Without You by Billy Ocean please? I've got to learn it fairly quickly for a wedding. I've had a quick run through and it seems to revolve around the following (or something similar plus a key change obviously towards the end). Am I on the right lines, or even anywhere close? Verse F/F/C/C Gm/Gm/Dm/C Chorus F/F/C/C Gm/Bb/Dm/C Cheers John.
  15. Congratulations mate. I wish I had your dedication.
  16. Bit of Jamerson - For Once In My Life, Bernadette, I Was Made To Love Her. I've recently spent many happy hours murdering the first of those.
  17. Cheers mate. I've got to learn that for a wedding so you've saved me a lot of time. Thanks.
  18. Not a bad idea. How many runs using the blues scale/minor pentatonic can you fit into one song?
  19. No worries mate. You did say you were only 87.3% certain in fairness. Still I know where to come for any of the other Who songs. I'll get cracking with the tab and work it out from there. Cheers.
  20. That's the one. I'm not the world's greatest reader but that completely baffled me. If you can send me a copy I'd be really grateful mate. Cheers.
  21. Thanks mate. That looks like a great place to start. Great song and great tone I've always thought. Lucky you BTW. Whilst you're blasting your way through The Real Me I'm probably playing Angels to drunken bridesmaids. Thanks again.
  22. Does anyone know of a decent tab/notation of the Real Me by The Who? I've got a copy in a magazine, unfortunately, it seems to be misprinted and doesn't make sense. I've managed to work out the first few bars but would like to finish learning it some time before 2012. Cheers.
  23. Richard Thompson and Robert Plant with Alison Krauss. I hit 40 last month and it's showing.
  24. I'd appreciate a copy mate. PM sent. Cheers.
  25. I love Come On Come Over but am far too shallow and lazy to listen to the rest of his stuff. God I feel bad now.
