1. It's nearly here...
2. Ouch, that's an expensive hobby!
3. Checking carefully through the Warwick web site, I find that ALL Aliens are now made in China. There are three models, Alien Standard, Alien Deluxe, and Warwick Alien. The Warwick Alien is the one with the Florentine cutaway and long thumb rest, and that's the one pictured on the prize draw posting. So here's hoping!
4. Pics, yes. Sound samples and vids? No. I'd never live it down...
5. Used it exclusively at a big gig last night - was great!
6. As far as I can tell, it's probably a Rockbass. I really don't mind!
7. My son has my camera...more pics in a few days! My phone's not up to it...
8. Yup, definitely somewhere I'll return to.
9. And Steve, "not completely accurate".? Not remotely accurate would be better. However, if it weren't for the relic job, I'd be interested!
10. Contents: Bpdy, pickguard and controls from Squier Affinity P-J. Add: One 2006 MIM P neck, one Celinder/Armstrong P pickup, and one Wizaed 64 Jazz bridge pickup. Retstring with TI Jazz Flats, and fettle. Voila!
11. To say I'm chuffed is somewhat of an understatement!
12. Well the previously mentioned Squier P-J is one new one. Ridiculously good for the money. Then today I read the email. "Conratulations..." Oh, here we go... "You have won the prize draw for the Warwick Alien acoustic bass on Facebook" I suppose Facebook had to be good for something!
13. And, wow! See expanded NBD about to hit the basses thread!
14. Ok, having had a few hours to spare a bit too close to Denmark Street, I bought a Squier Affinity P-J. I intend to mix and match parts with the Plexiglass P to make myself a P-J version of my go-to Precision. The kudos? Wunjo's Bass Centre. Endlessly helpful nice people who cared for a customer who wasn't spending lots, yet without asking, gave him the best possible deal. In my opinion, it rarely gets better than that.
15. Particularly interested in trade for a Yamaha BB424.
16. Flats on P and Mustang. However, went back to bronze rounds on the Kingman.
17. And be very lucky to find one!
18. Played at a wedding in a country pub on Saturday. Great fun, a lot if friends there, and support from a 3-piece acoustic band of violin (5-string,), guitar, and on squeeze box and spoons, Mr Geoff Lakeman, father of Seth!
19. I've yet to hear the slightest degradation in tone or sustain when removing BAIIs and replacing them with BBsOT. And I've done it on both Ps and Js of various pedigree. No difference. Nada. Zilch. Just half a pound lighter.
20. This has been asked many times. I don't lend my gear or go without my own. No point being in a band otherwise, surely?
21.
As propounded above, one should always have someone at both ends of the load-out - someone by the van, someone with the gear inside the venue. The problems start when you're in a three-piece. Either one person carries everything out or there's a complicated little waltz where A goes out to B from C then B goes back to C who goes out to A and then your head explodes and you forget your extension board.
This, says bass player in a 3-piece...
22. Short notice gig at the London Inn, Okehampton. Was a multi band affair with us headlining. Was one of those gigs where you can do no wrong. Brilliant!
