1. And sounds pretty good, too. However, the improvement is less than I imagined it might be. The original pickup is not a ceramic bar; it has magnet slugs, so may be alnico. Measures 9k dc resistance compared to 10.1k for the Fender. As a side comment, the electrics in this were beautiful, shielded cavity, good soldering. Impressive.

3. Nice!
4. Now that I've given up playing in loud bands (to save what little's left if my hearing), I've learned the techniques if playing really lightly and letting the amp do the job. It means I've been able to get the action on the basses down to almost nothing. Which in turn helps with fast runs. Which requires an even softer touch! I don't doubt that this will be hard to translate into a live situation, but it's so nice to play. Before this, ET's "it'll do" worked just fine!
5.
I'm tempted to try and get a p bass 5ers squire vm.does anyone have one?
Yes. Good!
6. I've got a bitsa made from everything Fender I like. Based on that, I'd be looking at the American Specials. Necks are amazing if you like slim.
7.
I use flatwounds of one kind or another and I only ever change them if I get a new bass or if I want to try a different string. No strings get thrown away they just move between storage box and bass as and when I fancy it.
This.
8. Due to the guitarist not knowing the correct chord, I used to play chords also, above the 12th fret. It took a little of the incorrectness away. Other than that, it's tuning and refreshments time...
9. Yup, one of the reasons I bid on it. I also have a Squier VM Precision that weighs under 7lb. Like playing fresh air!
10.
I usually get people talking to me whilst I'm not only playing, but singing!
This REALLY p*sses me off.
11. Precision basses, or necks thereof, 44mm nut width. Can't think of anything else, really!
12. If the frets are dressed, leveled and crowned properly, then the set up, and buzzing, are determined almost exclusively by neck relief. If your 2K bass is buzzing as you describe, then either the neck is misadjusted or the fretwork is faulty. There's the nut to consider also. The gauge and height of the fretwire is of no relevance to the equation whatsoever, so long as the right relief, nut height, and fretwork has been done.
13.
Was it just me or was anyone else scared shitless the way he handled them knowing how expensive they probably are?
Did seem a tad casual...
14. Well, Rick (KK Jale) has sent me the Wilkinson 4+1, and a spiffy piece of work it is too! Now need a project bass to stick it on. Anyone know which cheapo Precision - a likes have the widest nut width?
15. This turned up in an order from Hipshot USA, and they didn't want it back, so... Complete with vintage bush and a set of four screws. Includes postage.
16. Welcome from Tavistock!
