Right, im most probebly throwing myself in at the deep end here. Im interested in learning about how the elctronics of a bass work and are put together, so i thought theres no beter way to learn then to just give it a go.

So my mission is to build a 62 stacked knob control plate for my mim jazz. I have bought all the compounants i think i need being;

3 holed fender control plate
Two 250k/500k Potentiometers
Jack socket
47uf orange drop capacitor
22uf orange drop capacitor
22 gauge wire

Ive read that by also having resistors wired can help ellimate crosstalk between the controls. Which resistors should be used?

I was wondering if anyone will be able to me advice on what and what not to do. Also if anyone can post a picture of there work on a 62 circuit it will be much apreciated, as i think it will help me to follow the wiring diagram.

Any help will be awesome.
Thanks

I can't comment on using resistors for cross-talk reduction, but IIRC the "non-stacked" control plate uses 2x250k logarithmic pots for volume and 1x500k linear pot for tone purposes.

If you want stacked controls, you'll need "dual concentric" potentiometers. I really have no idea what values these are available in! The capacitor values are right, though.

This is a good place to start.

The concentric pots should be:

centre spindle/bottom pot/250K

outer spindle/upper pot/500K

I don't quite get the question - what is it that you need help with? There is an interesting thread on TB about this wiring setup.

Here is a pic of a 1960 Jazz control plate:

Note the two resistors - one coming from each volume pot, joined up together going to the jack. This is supposed to reduce/remove crosstalk from the two tone pots. The resistors are supposed to be 220k, according to this site.

A user on this thread on TB states that the originals had 250k/250k stacked pots. [Edit to add: I am not sure about this, though. I seem to recall reading once upon a time that they indeed were 250k/500k]

Hi
I'm also not quite sure what you are trying to do (not familiar with the '62) but is it like my VM Squier Jag - do you want a volume and tone for each of the two pickups? If so, when I get back at the weekend, I can easily take off my control plate and photgraph it for you...

The VM Jag has two concentric control knobs - each with volume at the top and tone at the bottom to be able to blend either pup by volume and tone (bit like a Les Paul in middle postion but using just two knobs intead of four). Let me know and if I'm right, I'll get a shot Fri/ Sat

Hi
Hope the attached help. This is the back of the control plate of my Squier VM Jaguar.

The configuration has two stacked knobs giving independent tone and volume to each pickup. Note that the upper (viewed from the back) pot is volume-wired and the lower one is tone-wired with a capacitor on each. It's just the same as a Les Paul guitar except that each tone and vol pot are stacked on top of each other rather than separate and side by side.
Hope this helps
Andy
