Any experience with the "Vintage" guitars brand?

How did they manage to get away with doing a Jaco Pastorius clone when Fender are doing their own version of it?

I think it's only GAK calling it a "Jaco Pastorius" bass - on the JHS page ([url="http://www.jhs.co.uk/vintagebass.html"]http://www.jhs.co.uk/vintagebass.html[/url]) it's called an Icon VJ96. With a lot of references to Jaco but nothing explicit.

Those Vintages have been out a few years, Fender aren't really like other big names with their rights protection and don't seem to see it as much of a threat. I've played a couple and was fairly underwhelmed.

I was tempted to buy a Vintage, a clone of a Warwick. It looked good but I only got as far as picking it up. It weighed as much as a small planet.

I,ve got one and I have changed the pup,bridge and tuners but it was good for the price standard.

I had a vintage MM copy and the truss rod was badly fitted so it couldn't be adjusted. I am a believer You do get what you pay for but my g/f bought me it for my Birthday in this case.

I too have an old bubinga natural finish 5 string. Ripped out the active electronics and put a pair of Kent Armstrongs in there. It's not a bad bass, if not great.

And yeah, it weighs a ton. We used to do 6 hour band practices 2 nights in a row which was torture towards the end.

I played one of those at a shop a while back and it actually felt surprisingly good. The shop however, sucked, and didn't let me plug in to an amp to try it out properly.

The Jaco or the other ones being discussed? If you're willing to spend time and cash modding them I reckon they're good for the money. Mine is gathering dust at the moment sadly.

There's not enough space in the cavity for 2 pots so it's just got volume at the moment. The pickups also need raising as they're way too far from the strings. I'm considering a de-fret for tonal variation and for fun.
