The bass on Never Too Much sounds like sh*t, and the bass part on Walk The Dinosaur is a bit like the theme from Duck Tales but not as good. Neither tune is ever held up as a great example of slap bass, and both are easily dated to the '80s. So my previous points stand: Marcus Miller's tone is definitive only for Marcus Miller fans, and it is indeed "That '80s sound". Seems I'm here just in time For the record, the ideal slap tone is achieved via using nice clean zingy strings & eq-ing lots of highs and lows with flat mid frequencies. So any comment about Marcus Miller's slap tone having no mids is totally correct. Mids are not welcome in slap-land! You need the flat middle for that scooped sound. Just waiting for the same old boring arguments about "barrages of machine gun fire" & "unmusical" to surface now. I do wish someone would come up with something original, I really do. The TE pre-amp is the GP12 feeding into an Ashdown Mark King head (via the return skt).So I'm just using the power amp inside not its pre-amp. MarkBass 2 10 and a Hartke 4 10 Traveller Cab. Even with new strings (Elites) the bass on the E always sounds a bit dull I was wondering if a Baddass bridge might make a difference. The neck is Maple fretboard so should be bright enough. Also, make sure you have the graphic set to the "smiley face" - Lots of low and high frequencies dropping down to the centre indent for the middle channels.
