bremen Posted April 9 Posted April 9 8 hours ago, paul_5 said: I came across this problem when fixing my DHA pedal - my solution was to have some solid core wire (about the same diameter as a 24 or 26 AWG multi-strand) and to strip abut 30 cm of the insulation off it. Next I heat the solder pad using a temperature controlled iron and feed the solid core through the hole in the PCB - as it travels through the hole it will pick up any errant nasties or stray wires that remain. Once the solid wire is through you should have a nice clean hole, then I used my wire cutters to chop the 'spent wire' off, leaving the rest of the reel ready for the next use. You may have to do this a couple of times, but I find that it works well in tight spaces where you can only realistically desolder the solder side of the board due to the component side being too full. Hope this helps. Another effective variation of that is a pcb drill bit. Heat the pad, push the drill through the hole while the solders melted, then spin the drill bereeen fingers as you remove the iron to prevent the solder sticking. Quote

LukeFRC Posted April 24 Posted April 24 Thanks @disssa @bremen - I did but it looks like that just have the unbranded power jacks like in the picture . i havd however managed to copy in a Spotify link I can’t delete of a friends band. I can’t remove on my phone so enjoy. Quote
LukeFRC Posted April 24 Posted April 24 I’ve heard some of these non lumberg ones aren’t great - anyone any experience of these from switch https://www.switchelectronics.co.uk/products/2-1mm-x-5-5mm-panel-mount-dc-power-socket-dc-022b Quote
admiralchew Posted April 28 Posted April 28 Interesting looking course from Neil at NRG: https://www.pedalpatch.co.uk/workshops?mc_cid=f4d8a5f6c9&mc_eid=377f14edc2 Given he makes one of my top three overdrives and it looks like the below inside, it may be worth a look! I think I have a clash that date but definitely sounds interesting for the future. 3 Quote
LukeFRC Posted April 29 Posted April 29 Brian Wamplers courses online are also supposed to be decent. More circuit design than PtP primers 4 Quote

BabyBlueSound Posted April 29 Posted April 29 Scribd.com has a free trial, where you can legally download Brian's (and of course other) books in PDF. I am about to read it on the train. Quote
BabyBlueSound Posted May 11 Posted May 11 I built a Notaklon, there's quite a couple skill levels between these kits and actually soldering a thing 😁 Quote
BabyBlueSound Posted May 14 Posted May 14 Anybody tried covering the pedal with epoxy? I am giving it a go now, I used epoxy before for other stuff so not completely new to it, but I forgot how ridiculously messy it is 😔 Quote

Homatron Posted Tuesday at 20:42 Posted Tuesday at 20:42 (edited) While pretty basic compared to many of the examples in this thread I'm still pretty pleased with my latest DIY pedal - the Quasi-Jive! I had started to make a stripboard Jptr Jive when I realised a Zvex SHO clone PCB would get me 95 % of the way there. I added my favourite of the clipping diode options from the original Jive, and voilà! I'd like my toddler to decorate it but I'm not sure he has the attention span to finish the job. The edges retracted... it looks better live than on this pic 😂 Have you tried uv resin? You’d still have to use heat, or a lot of patience, to spread it. But with the use of a uv torch it sets immediately. Meaning less retraction. And if it did retract a little bit, it’s a quick, seamless fix. You’d probably be able to use it to fix the edges of that pedal. I bought the stuff for model making, but I am finding all sorts of uses for it. Quote
BabyBlueSound Posted Tuesday at 22:11 Posted Tuesday at 22:11 I fixed it since by adding another layer, the first layer always retracts a bit. I tried two types of UV resins before and they're both terribly, terribly stinky. Let me know which one you use that's hopefully smell-free I also managed to lose my UV flashlight since... 🙄 Quote
