risingson
Bit of an assortment really! Bobby Womack - Across 110th Street, this reminds me of being in New York City, one of my favourite places ever Chaka Khan - Watcha Gonna Do For Me (rhythm section comprising of Steve Ferrone and Anthony Jackson... nuff said!) If You Want Me to Stay - Sly and the Family Stone Curtis Mayfield - Billy Jack Edited January 8, 2011 by risingson

She and Arif Mardin did a great job arranging 'Naughty' and 'What Cha Gonna Do For Me between them'. Anthony Jackson said about her 'few artists of major stature have ever possessed the patience, supportiveness, musicality, and virtuosity of Chaka Khan. I've worked with countless singers, from divas to bicycle pumps, and none has been able to gather and harness such powerful creative forces as Chaka.' Considering what a ridiculous stickler for detail Anthony is and his penchant for not mincing his words often, that is massive praise indeed! 1oopus
More great stuff here! So glad Bubinga reminded of John Scofield - he can be groovy as hell, in more of a jazz-funk vein of course (hope nobody'd mind the slight change in style) this was originally recorded with Martin, Medeski, Wood (great record - Billy Martin is terrific), but I like this version with Patitucci on upright http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWDYZlDsH-c Even the manic perfectionists Steely Dan would be hard-pressed to find a flaw about this impressive rhythm section performance courtesy of Tom Barney and Ricky Lawson. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qd_1NYc11u0 When Dennis Chambers tackles a JB classic, you can count that the result's gonna be pretty irresistible http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-KFEPStM4vo I think Dave Weckl has been often guilty of self-indulgent overplaying - not in this case: great pocket with Tom Kennedy and rest of the band http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6HKugXG6dF0
