some of my current stuff is insured under the house insurance, but obviously it dont stay in the house.

im sure there is some kind of instrument insurance, just wondering if anyone knows any companies or has it themselves that can point me in the right direction.

That's all down to the small print. Alot of my stuff isn't covered due to the individual value. It was just easier to get stuff through a specialist musical instrument insurer - and they are very reasonable.

If you have personal belongings cover on your home insurance, it will cover your gear as long as it isn't for professional use. Some insurance companies let you specify dearer items or increase how much cover you need & is often worldwide cover against theft, damage & loss.
Downside is that if you have to claim, it will affect your home insurance & make it dearer the following year.
My gear is all covered under my home insurance.

Try Victor C Knight, 0208 351 2400, used them for years, they broker to Allianze.
eg. currently a £7.800 cover costs approx £130 and double bass is included but I seem to remember they put that into "classical" instrument cover for me.
