Re - weights - all depends on each individual bass - the Alembics I've got both weigh a ton, much heavier than a Series II or III JD - but then my Series I JD is a very heavy bass! I've got a spur of bone on one of the joints of my first finger on my right hand and some days, I can't move it (which can be an issue when music pays your mortgage) so I kind of know where you are at. (you, Kol, me and Cookie and if we can find 'im, Toby Douglas!). Remember that italian we had in Manchester - I think we spent about £300 on Barolo that night...! Those pics bring back some memories! Bryan, that pearl blue Mark King model with the unusual funk groove used to belong to our good friend Mick Cookson from Manchester - he originally bought it as what he thought was a Roadie II passive, finished entirely in gloss black (with the funk groove). Anyway, Mick took it to John around 1999 or so and wanted it stripping down to have it redone in `Manchester City' blue. As John got it rubbed down, it was clear that it was not a Roadie but a heavily modified Mark King model, complete with centre stringers in the body. Mick then had John restore it complete with the standard JD 3 band eq etc. I've got a pic of me playing it at the old Bartholomew Street workshop. There's a lot of history out there - when the Net first started, there were many Yahoo clubs for most of the main bass makers (I co-founded the JD one, and setup clubs for Status, Pangborn etc), going back to around '97 - and we actually had quite a few get-togethers, including parties in London etc and of course, the famous JD 25th Anniversary open day in 2001. Ive decided that im going to have a jaydee made next year im either going to go one way or another with it, either stay witht the classic jaydee look of a series 1 in white or of course cherry red love it my dad has one and i also have a 1980 jaydee roadie active 2 which is one of two in the world with a cetral stripe so i am informed the other one is on a jaydee leaflet the only difference on that one is it has a squared body like my dads series 1 and mark kings cherry red jaydees's the other direction which i am considering taking is to get a series 4 jaydee with a quilted maple top. 32 inch scale front leds and then get side ones added later...a custome string spacing between 16.5mm which i loved on the kingbass mk2 and that of a jaydee or jazz bass which is 19 so 17 would be great. And i might get stars on the neck not too sure yet aswell as getting the top stained red whilst leaving the sides and back natural....sounds excellent has anyone got any pictures of the series 4? Its a personal thing - build-wise they (JD and Alembic) are very similar - now that JD's are `one-offs' as opposed to semi-production models, the attention to detail is excellent, only thing might be the waiting list! antti Posted January 11, 2010 Share Posted January 11, 2010 Thank's Doc. I am this close to order one. I already have one CB (6 string fretless) and one handmade Jazz bass. I love them bought. This Jaydee looks so good and I am after a good slap bass. The quality looks great and the price is more than reasonable. It is like an Alembic with 1/5 the price.
