1. I've recently discovered that a fixed filter effect is the key to dialing in a 'doctored' bass sound that you can't get from tweaking a 7-band EQ all day and fighting to get the same sound. I own a Carvin Redline 1000 bass head and it has a filter shaping secondary EQ that really helps sculpt the sound once you've spent about a month trying to figure out that particular amp in question. A Hartke Hydrive has a similar feature on those amps as well. You could easily dial in Mark King's bass solo sound for 'People" along with a phaser or flanger on the slowest sweep speed. What makes his bass sound 'distorted' is when the filter is on a frequency that exceeds the input level of the amp. He may have just went straight into the mixing board in the studio since he had a D.I. jack on his Jaydee and maybe Wally Baradou worked his magic with the mixer board.

 4.

Hi Mowac, It was your custom white roadie that inspired me to put my order in. It looks fantastic with the blue LED's.
Hi Stu, That is a really nice job. Did you have that custom built for you? I love to see the real custom orders. Shows what can be done with a little imagination. Small update on my order 32" scale 16.5mm spacing Called in to see John on Friday, and the Calibas is definately the body for me... but as it's to be sprayed all white, I'm considering what to do with the arm groove that is cut out on the front? A different colour / original wood? I'd appreciate some input? Cheers, Lee
Thanks Lee, However, my white Roadie doesn't have l.e.d.'s. Wished it had. The Roadie your speaking of is pictured in the photo gallery on the Jaydee website.
 5. A tad pricey they are but considering they aren't made any more, it's more like an investment. They play like a dream too.
 6. Here is a fine Kawai gem of a bass. It is the F2 Alembic copy and it looks to be in the same near mint condition as my own. It can be found here: http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Rare-Kawai-Bas...=item27b1a40b70 Hurry! Only 3 days left as of this writing at this time and the seller ships worldwide, my U.K. bass bretheren. I grabbed one and never regretted it. It's got more tones than a bassist knows what to do with. Not bad for a 'poor man's Alembic'.
 7.
Who did you have do the work (if you don't mind me asking)? Cheers.
I had it done by a local guitar luthier that lives only a few miles from home. He has worked on a dozen bass projects for me. He fixed the neck issues that I had on my Jaydee MK2 in cherry red and refretted it for me. He relaquered my Washburn-Status headless also. He has replaced the nut on several of my basses and makes them by hand. It's a luxury to have a very skilled luthier that close by.
 8. The way I try to get a decent slap sound is by reducing the volume on the bass at around the 70% mark or by turning up the volume to 3/4 full. Compression helps alot and I have recently discovered that the big secret could be a fixed envelope filter. A filter alows you to get an even tone all the way across the strings without the obnoxious booming low end that you get from trying to achieve the same sound from a graphic E.Q. It's like a wah filter except you can set it at a fixed position to achieve the desired tone once you have dialed it in. I've also tried Markbass amps and I was very impressed at the way those amps are built. They are on the pricey side, but it would pay for itself with the reward you get from it. I tried the little Markbass 1x12 combo amp and it damn near shook all the other basses off the wall at the guitar store I tried one out at.
 9. Here is new pics of my recently repainted Jaydee that use to be pearl pink. It is now 'burnt orange'. The entire bass had to be relaquered to match the new paint job. Also the bass originally came with white control compartment covers. I had new black ones made to match. Why 'burnt orange' you ask? I've never seen another Jaydee with that color. Sorry for the long download time, as I didn't reduce the picture sizes. cheers,
 10.
Hi, I'm going to ask Mr Diggins to build me a Jaydee. I'm favouring an active roadie in white. What I can't decide upon are the options http://www.jaydeecustomguitars.co.uk/bass_price_list.html Which options do you think are worth going for? Cheers, Lee
The only real option my white Roadie came in was that it had the humbucking SN2000 pickups. And they sound fantastic and they are more powerful than the original SN2000 pickups. They have more of a midrange sound in the Roadie body that is made from solid mahoghany. I got my white Roadie from a gentleman in the U.S. who had it built for him. I'm planning to have my local luthier install a D.I. jack like the MK 1 and 2's have. I liked the all-chrome hardware that came with it also. Cheers,
 11.
Do you mean something like this old girl... Its being refinished in the same red as the bass featured on the first page of the JD website - it should be done soon - can't wait to get it back!
Hey Doc, what do the mini-toggles do or what are they setup for? Are they coil taps?
 12.
Mowac - that does look the business. Trying to imagine what I'd look like gigging a pink Jaydee in an indie covers band though.... Er, maybe not. Shame - it looks like fun.
Well fear not about the color now my friend. Check it out now. It would look respectable gigging in an Indie cover band now wouldn't you think?
 13. Well.......Here she is for the new unveiling. My newly re-painted Series 1 in burnt orange. I chose orange because it accents the hardware and really brings out the woodwork in the laminates and I haven't seen another Jaydee in this color. I think it looks rather unique and different. Just didn't want a typical white, black, boring color. Couldn't really go with the cherry color as that would require too much sanding. More photos to come when I get time.
 14. Attention K-Mart Shoppers! My Jaydee is getting a new facelift in the color department as we speak. I'm retireing the pearl pink and changing it to a new to be announced at a later date. More to come soon..........
 15.
Rickenbacker 4001. Now changing hands for stupid money as they're discontinued.
Yamaha should have came out with a Paul McCartneyy BB sig for the one he played in the '70's.
