I played a lakland joe osborn skyline the other day and loved the sound, but I never really get on with the necks of jazz basses. Cheers guys.[/quote] I know the 5 string J Osborn has a pretty massive neck, I would've thought the four would be just right - definitely wider than the fender at least..? There's Sadowsky etc but thats active and will sound pretty different.. Most P/J basses will have a P neck with the bridge pup - Maybe an option.. And the Mark Hoppus (Blink 182) is definitely a mix of the two (Jazz body, P pickup and neck) but with limited tonal options (only a volume control IIRC) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It isn't really a cheap option, but you can put together a very good (pro-quality) bass if you buy good parts. I'd suggest getting the body and neck from the same supplier (be it Brandoni or Warmoth) so that you get a good neck fit. For a while I had a Bravewood J body with a Bravewood one piece maple P neck - it was fantastic, resonant, barky and bright. But it wasn't a J anymore.
