Nick upson Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago (edited) Dramatic title but it's got your attention. Now these strings are not cheap and I have put a set on a StingRay special. I have EB cobalt flats on another Ray and Elixir nickel plated steels on another Ray and they sound amazing. I am really struggling with the DRs as they feel horrible on my fingers and against the fretboard and don't sound brilliant. To the point I don't even want to pick it up and play it. So my question is, should I bite the bullet and get rid or should I give them time to bed in? Will they get better in time? Anyone else had experience with these strings? BigRedX Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago If you don't like the DRs now, you are unlikely to think they have got any better in another couple of weeks. When I first started to branch out from what was available in my local musical instrument shop I bought a selection of DR strings because they were getting a lot of love here and on the US forum. I couldn't get on with any of them. I didn't like the feel and I didn't think they sounded particularly good compared with what I was used to. It's a fact not every string suits every player, and not every string suits every bass and price has very little to do with it. 2 Quote
Nick upson Posted 21 hours ago Author Posted 21 hours ago Thanks for the feedback. It was due to the love in the forums that I gave them a go. As you say maybe they just don't work for me or this bass. It's just a shame to have to change strings so soon due to the waste of money. Quote
pineweasel Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Give them some time. It took me a couple of weeks to get used to Fat Beams when I put a set on my Jazz bass, but I ended up liking them a lot. 1 Quote
chris_b Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago (edited) I used DR strings on Laklands, Wals and Stingrays, for more than 15 years, and I loved them. Faced with the same problem I'd cut my losses. I have D'addario NYXL's on my Sadowsky Jazz right now. I'd recommend those as well. Edited 20 hours ago by chris_b 1 Quote
fretmeister Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago I like Hi Beams but they are expensive so I swapped to Mark Bass Advanced "Soft Touch" rounds for, err, roundwound needs and it turned out I like them a lot more. Quote
