Nice. And already seems to be available and on sale! (one of those 'sales' where it's the actual price?!) £279 https://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/product/251215451631027--ashdown-pbm-200-200-watt-portable-bass-head

Personally, I'd go: Elf (£230)  for backup and ultra-portability. Ant (£279) for a small gigging amp - not as ideal for being pocket sized backup as the Elf but with a few additional useful live features like mute button, Speakon cable connector would seal the deal for me. Or I'd go Gnome v2 (£215) if I wanted to have things like aux in and USB for home use (but isn't as small as the Elf as a backup, and doesn't have the live features of the Ant like the mute).

Don’t discount the TC BH250. It sounds really great, with effective and simple EQ. It’s very, very compact. It has aux, headphone out (and usb) for home use. A built in, useable visual tuner and a mute. And, it has one Toneprint which is very good. (I’ve basically set it to a compressor and leave it…And, it’s only £175 new.

I love the Ashdown sound though so I’m keen to try one of these Ants.

I think you might be confusing Lakland with Sadowsky. Lakland Shoreline Series ( for the Japanese market) were made by ESP.

I had a Skyline Darryl Jones (Korea) and I had a Shoreline Darryl Jones. There was nothing between them, really. I preferred the Korean one as it was lighter and more "played in" but there was no difference in build quality or spec. Both were very good instruments.

I know ESP thought about buying Lakland when Dan Lakin decided to move on.

I always wanted a black DJ4. Finally got round to ordering one only to be told Lakland no longer offered that model due to Darryl taking his patent elsewhere. I was quite miffed, but to make up for it I got them to make me a one-off custom USA-made version with ChiSonic pickups ect. It's quite a bass.

The Skyline versions are back now, but only in crap colours.

IIRC DJ was going to collaborate with Albey Balgochian to introduce a range of instruments under the "A Bass" brand and they were looking at setting up pre-orders. I registered my interest at the time.

The Lakland DJ ceased to be for a while but soon returned when the "A Bass" thing came to nothing.

I had a limited edition Lakland "Adam Clayton" DJ in a natural ash with black blocks and ChiSonic pickups for a while. These were Korean-made then shipped to Chicago for QA and set up. It was an absolute lead sled ship's anchor of a bass. I think it was commissioned by Bass Central and there was a small amount of config available like pickup selection and white or black blocks.

I remember those AC DJ basses. It might have been where I first got the idea of having ChiSonics put on mine.

After Lakland first moved production to Indonesia a lot of the basses got lighter. I've got a Skyline 44-02 Deluxe fretless weighs about 8 pounds. My USA DJ is genuine swamp ash and weighs in a bit under 8 pounds. Sounds great with those pickups, like a beefed-up Jazz Bass but not like an active Jazz, which is exactly what I wanted. Haven't used it in a long time, but I will get round to it again.

I wonder what Lakland are showing at NAMM this year? Can't find much yet.

That SB1 looks a lot better in real life than in photos. I bet it's a great rock bass. That Frank Bello bass looks killer in the new finish.
