Rehearsal room rigs

Had a similar surprise with a rehearsal room Ashdown ABM  a few years back, I'll see if I can did that pic out also 👍

 

So, last night we rehearsed in a room about 50m from the room above and it couldn't have been more different. Lovely rehearsal space, very well designed and maintained, but with a Mark Bass head and Ampeg portaflex cab that no matter what I did EQ-wise would not punch through, I had to rely on a nebulous rumble to fill out the bottom end in most songs, bloody glad I had a fretted with me as I simply could not hear the note.  Next time we use that room I'm taking my own rig

Could be the room of course, and your own rig will make almost no difference.

 

IME "acoustic treatment" in rehearsal spaces is mostly cosmetic and makes little contribution to how the room sounds especially in the lower frequencies.

Do you have an Elf?

No I'll be taking an M-Pulse and a rather interesting Mesa cab with 1x10 and 2x6 (essentially top part of a 1516). I've yet to find a room in which that rig sounds anything less than bloody good

There are only 2 rehearsal spaces that supply rigs in my area. One, old Peavey combos that have been ragged to bits. The amps seem OK but the drivers have been pushed so hard I'd say the cones are badly torn. The second place has a Markbass rig. A 210 cab with a 250w head. It's OK but struggles a little to cut through in the room, especially against the awful drum kit there.

Yep, used that too in Studio 2. Amazing little thing, dials in exactly what you want. Don't know why it isn't up there in people's faves yet.

I had a lot of fun playing through this at last nights rehearsal. 

It’s the first time I’ve been in a room with amps and a drum kit playing rock music for about 8 years! 
 

After 5 years of silent stages, in-ear monitors and acoustic guitars. I had completely forgot how flippin’ loud it is 🤣 

 

Still, the trusty ACS just about saved my lug holes.

 

Dusted off the old faithful Jazz Bass which I’ve had since I was 13 and it all sounded blooming marvellous! It’s nice to feel bass again! 
 

This was my dream rig for about 10 years, of which I never achieved. I had the head with a 2x10 & 1x15 but could never justify the 8.
 

I still kick myself regularly for shifting my old ABM rig!
