I bought a couple of what were supposedly Hercules GSP38WB Plus wall hangers off Ebay - they were slightly cheaper than buying off Amazon and I'm not putting money into Jeff Bezos's insatiable pockets. However, when they arrived, they turned out to be Chinese copies [1] called Galux GH-110W. Very similar to the Hercules ones but I don't know how trustworthy they are. As the Aliexpress listing for them says they're "zinc alloy", I feel quite disinclined to hang anything heavy or valuable from them.

[1] I'm aware that the Hercules ones themselves are probably made in China

I'd probably just report it for not as described then buy some Hercules ones from a more reputable source.

That's what I'm doing - looking closely at the photos which should show whether it's genuine (the photos on the fake one show what you're getting but I was just going off the auction title, not realising there were fakes going around).

Always find it weird reading these threads where someone takes this moral stance and says they're not going to purchase through <insert site here>, then buys through eBay/AliExpress and doesn't get the product described.  It's eBay/AliExpress/etc.

Honestly, life's too short.  Whether you like Amazon or not, it's generally a one stop shop.  Convenient, generally cheaper and quick.  My old employer sold into them extensively; if you're buying direct (and not using a third party seller, you're pretty much assured you're getting as genuine a product as possible.

Well, if you buy off Aliexpress you do have to keep your wits about you and I certainly don't believe the branded products for sale there are genuine.

However, with eBay you pay a buyer's premium (sorry, "Protection Fee"); I'd raise a dispute, citing them bein fake/not as described.

Similarly, if you buy something on Amazon and a fake turns up then there's recourse by contacting their CS via chat/callback.

As for Hercules wall hangers, I think there were issues with them a while back and I wouldn't have them anyway.

That said, they are often used in shops.

I don't normally have problems with Ebay, and in this case what I got is clearly not what was advertised. The ones that have now arrived are the correct Hercules ones. Unlike fake Fenders, normally buying a new branded product from Ebay gets you that new branded product.

I raised a dispute several days ago. Return was accepted. Haven't had a chance to get to the post office yet but they're all wrapped up ready to go.

Also, the occasional dodgy item that I've bought from Aliexpress has been refunded very quickly and easily (refunds have come as soon as I've posted the return, which is to a UK address, doesn't even take until the return has arrived at the return address).

I currently have 8 basses hanging off Hercules wall hangers. I think they've proved pretty reliable.

Ive found cheaper wall hangers do the job just fine mechanically but the rubber/foam can stain necks and leave very stubborn residue, that is all I'd be cautious of
