Best short scale P bass for under £150?

A while ago, I had a Harley Benton shorty P bass. Put some Wilkinson alnico pickups in and a wiring loom off ebay. What an amazing bass, and all for £100. I stupidly sold it. Following an operation on my left elbow, I'm now off games for a couple of months and I'm bored. I'm looking for a good, sub £150 short scale P bass to tinker with. Is the HB Shorty still the best in that price range? Anything else?

Andertons do an EastCoast Mustang/Precision short scale for about that money. And you're under a tenner away from a Squier Bronco.

I don't think you're going to get much better for such a small amount of money.

If you're happy to go used you could look at an Ibanez Talman, they often come up within your budget.

I have an HB Shorty with a Tonerider pickup and find it absolutely delightful.  You know the score with these so I say copy and paste!

I've saving my penny's for a Hb shorty, debating the matter finish one

I owned a wee J&D P-bass for a while.

 

 

Was a cracking wee thing 😎 Maple/Rosewood neck. Alder body so pretty light. Think the pickup was ceramic, bright and lively.

Never had any issue with hardware.  Thought it was a bargain at £104.  Great if black/tort is your taste 👍 

 

I'm afraid the gap between owning my PB-20 and the J&D shorty was too long for  an honest comparison.
