skychaserhigh Posted Wednesday at 14:25 Posted Wednesday at 14:25 I tend to back off bass slightly, small boost of 800 and treble. Sounds great with a Jazz or Precision. 1 Quote
The fasting showman Posted Wednesday at 19:26 Posted Wednesday at 19:26 (edited) Everyone has gone against what I was going to say, be drastic! That mid control is like a Mini Moog, those amps have a lovely smooth treble so I used to engage ultra hi even if treble is at noon. I owned a mk1 SVT for a while but preferred the v4b ( late 70s), for me even though they're brand siblings that share an active switchable mid with massive boost, making each anp work to it's strengths was completely different, I found anyway. I never got to try the old v4b through an 8x10 so I guess the cabs being used would have caused the difference maybe. Edited Wednesday at 19:35 by The fasting showman Explanation Quote
Beer of the Bass Posted Thursday at 19:03 Posted Thursday at 19:03 On 22/07/2025 at 18:19, The fasting showman said: I found that really interesting. The valve ( tube) compliment on the old version doesn't mention the 6k11 compactron valve that drives the mid circuit. What valve does that job in the new model? I've owned a couple of v4Bs, of the valve amps I had they worked well for me, paired with a Marshall vbc412 in particular. There have been a few different versions of Ampeg's active midrange EQ in different models over the years. They all use a multi-tapped inductor in a similar way, but they've used several different valves to do it. 2 Quote

BassmanPaul Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago You make me want to put one together but I don't have speakers that would suit a 100W amp. 1 Quote

Plug the other cab in and see how do As you say it feels different, it's more dynamic and organic gigs coming up will need Mustang with flats (blues/rock gig) New wave/ ska / mod dep (4003 with rounds) P bass with flats Police gig 50s style P bass with rounds I know its going to smash the new wave gig with the 4003 Quote
skychaserhigh Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago There's not a bad sound in that amp, just a case of choosing what works best for you. Enjoy! 2 Quote
