Finally getting round to updating the studio, I've been doing it piecemeal for years and the cabling has gotten scruffy, plus I need to move some rack units around to make room for some new kit.

Having a new rack unit built to house the amps and storage, and adding 2 new units to the upper racks, an RND Master Buss Processor and an RND Master Buss Transformer, a second Shelford will eventually be added and the UAD X16 will go into the side rack.

I foresee an extended period of cable wrangling in my immediate future...

Possibly accompanied by grazed knuckles and a repeatedly bumped head? Or is that just me and rewiring?

And of course there will be that time when you thread a really long XLR all the way through the run - only to realise you've got it the wrong way round.

I have, on occasion, wired a d-sub before realising I'd left the cable support clamp off...

Thats why I now use the ones that come in 2 parts...

Grazed knuckles... check.

Bumped head... check.

Swearing... check.

There are few things more guaranteed to really piss me off that having to crawl under my desk to...

a) insert/remove/replace a cable

b) find out why the insertion/removal/replacement in the previous step hasn't achieved its objective

c) undo the collateral damage inflicted on other cables while working on the previous two steps

One of the most significant evolutionary design flaws in the human psyche is the elevation in anger associated with tasks that require low levels of anger to be executed successfully :)

Very true. It's a problem afflicting men far more than women though. Which rather suggests men should stick to things that require occasional anger ( war, sport, hunting wolly mammoths) and leave the complicated stuff (wiring music studios, designing aircraft, international geopolitics) to women.

My wife (who runs a major UK fashion company) designates anything electrical/mechanical as a "blue job" sadly, so I'm stuck with those in the house.

Beedster, there are these amazing new things called "patch bays" change your life mate.

This is why nowadays my "studio" is contained within my Mac.
