nekomatic Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Just seen in a Facebook post by the guitarist Phil Robson that Dill Katz has passed away. He was a regular name on the jazz scene in London in the ‘90s having played bass in Nucleus and Barbara Thompson’s Paraphernalia among others, as well as producing many recordings and co-founding the Premises studios in Hackney. RIP. Quote
lowdown Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago I saw this a couple of days ago and very sad. He was a terrific musician and a very fine chap. R. I. P. Quote
Owen Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago I used to (and probably still would if I had the vinyl) love his playing on Barbera Thompson's stuff. He knew what was right. Quote
GuyR Posted just now Posted just now I had the privilege of seeing Dill Katz play on numerous occasions in the 80s and 90s. In particular with his “Mr Gone” ensemble featuring Ted McKenna, Tommy Eyre and John Etheridge. He was a masterful player, with a very distinctive style and sound, with his fat sounding Ned Callan modified Jazz Bass, the unlined fretless fingerboard extended to the pickup. His soloing was captivating and expressive, unafraid to push the boundaries. A great shame to hear of his passing. Quote
