Noise gates?

Hey!

 

Wondered what noise gates people are using (if any) on their pedalboards.

 

I used to have the GT1000core which had an excellent noise gate option. Since getting rid I’ve been dealing without, usually not an issue but once you get to high gain territory I certainly miss it.

 

Any recommendations? Are there any low profile options that could sit under the board?

 

I've heard good stuff about the Fortin Zuul but seems a little overkill for me!

…. getting a Pigtronix Gatekeeper Micro from Andy asap. It’s one sort of pedal that I don’t own yet. Not really into drives that much, maybe it’s because of the inherent noise lol.

Ace! Yeah keep me posted 🙌 I love a bit of filth, I don’t mind a little noise but it can rack up quick, especially when you start stacking drives.

I used the TC Sentry fir a long time. Now just use the one built into stuff like the Source Audio C4.

I've never come across a noise gate that works properly for unwanted sounds produced by high gain devices, mostly because they can't tell the difference between when the noise is wanted and when it's not.

 

IME a decent volume pedal placed at the end of the signal chain is far more effective.

The one on my GX-100 is also really, really, ridiculously good. I'd be tempted to try the Boss NS-2.

The beauty of the GT1000core was being able to use assignments to bind the threshold with input level and really fine tune the roll off. Meant you could get a really subtle effect.

 

I suspect I’ve been spoiled by the CORE.

Yeah it’s a tricky one, I’ve heard good ones which use an input key or loop so the behaviour is based on the actual input from the bass rather than effected signal. It’s just finding a balance that doesn’t sound unnatural.

I'm using the ISP Decimator II. One knob, set at 1 o'clock, start of the chain. Bliss.
