I like the look of that new 4 string version. My Space 5 has become invaluable. It lives in the boot of the car and is a nice light bass for carting round schools for teaching duties. The best part is that the monorails keep it in tune all the time. I've got a set of Elixir 40-125 strings on it and it sings very well. Sounds great live too.

My only complaint is that the output is a little on the low side (about equivalent to a passive Jazz). I checked inside and there's no trim pot to turn up on the MarkBass preamp board, so I guess that's how it is.

Looks like my Space 6 ain't happening anytime soon. From Cort;

Unfortunately, we do not have any plans to develop a headless 6-string bass or the Space 6 within the next year.

Gosh darn it.

Maybe the Sire M6 will be suitable, even though the 18mm bridge spacing (Sire confirmed) will make the neck a little wider than I'd like. I could also try to find an EHB.

I'm very fickle, but having owned the Cort Space 5, and and Ibanez EHB, and now considering different lightweight 5 string basses I'm led back to the Space 5. It's suprising what a difference a few hundred grams can make to comfort, and headless seems the only way to achieve that and still have good balance (and the bonus of being very stable tuning). The new Ibanez EHBs look good but they cost about £1k more, that feels difficult to justify, and I'm not against multiscale - but also don't feel it is particularaly game changing stuff, it isn't without some drawbacks.

One thing I think I will do though is sand down the right-angle edge on the top of the body where the forearm meets the bass and I guess try and put on some wood dye...that'll immediately significantly de-value it for any resale as I'm no craftsman! but perhaps that will encourage me to be more committed to it rather than selling on again!

The difficult bit for me is getting used to the light weight of it. I'm not used to having something so light.

I never liked the sound of it and bought it purely for the way it balanced. A set of EMGs and a BTS system took care of that.

It feels like the bass equivalent of a Skoda to me: solidly built and should be reliable but I don't feel like I need to be overly cautious when handling it. ( I have owned a few Skodas and loved having them )

I've now changed to the 4-string model (sold my Space 5, found I missed its usefulness and bought a 4 instead.)

The Space 4 really is a bargain which punches well above it's diminutive weight. The only problem I had was with the jack socket block being too close to the treble pot. Rotating it through 90 degrees seems to have solved the issue.

Liking Delberthot's Skoda analogy - It does the job with minimal frills, sounds great and plays like a little demon. You still have to boost the bass frequency on the preamp to near full boost, otherwise it can sound a little on the thin side. Other than that, no complaints.
