Soundcity 120B - SOLD

I'm looking to sell my Soundcity 120B mark 4 valve bass head.

I used to practice and gig with this amp on a regular basis but not i've used it in nearly a year and hence she must go.

Sounds fantastic!

New power valves put in shortly before it was shelved.

Original mullards supplied.

Fired it up last night and everything appeared as it should be.

I'd suggest a service however as it's has been stood a while.

I'm not certain what these go for so make me an offer if interested.

Thanks for looking.

Nice amp. Might help people to know whereabouts you are though. Think the last Sound City on here went for around £200 but that wasn't with Mullards and wasn't a bass specific one. Also, if you know exactly what valves are in it, that'd help too. :)

it had a mullard ;> and i don't think you'd need more low end from a soundcity 120! the active eq slays it.

I had umph's SC120 before him, and it was GreeneKing's before mine. I paid 200 so just sold it for what I paid. Don't mean to question this sale, but whereabouts does it say it's bass specific? Mine was just like the one for sale but was just a regular one I think. Another one went on here for £300 last month which looked just like mine, but was called a 120B too.

Again, not trying to question this amp, just curious!

Hi the amps are normally stamped on the back B120 or L120. B for bass and L for lead i belive. Its just how they voice the preamp.

checkout http://www.soundcitysite.com/sc_webpages/sc_home.htm for more info.

Thanks

Hi,

I've had the 120B in for service at Music Ground in Leeds (The home of Hiwatt).

They replace a capacitor, pre-amp valve and replaced all the knobs with Hiwatt chicken heads etc.

It looks great, sounds fat and is in perfect working order!

I was going to keep it but my Ampeg V4-BH has just piped it to the post again :) i think...

Anyway i'm looking for £450. Its in great condition and these seem to regularly sell for around this on ebay.

Thanks

Alex

About to `bay my early seventies Mk4 50 plus, also a B, & I am hoping it will get £400-500 as most of the recent sales have.
£450 is frankly a realistic price.

The valve thing is a bit of a red herring, as you have to weigh up the age of Mullards in an amp like this vs. newer, albeit possibly inferior, modern valves.

A clapped out Mullard will sound worse than a new noname.

I built a clone of a 57 Fender 5E3 deluxe amp recently & up against an original from 57, mine sounded 99% as good, even with new JJs in it.
Unfortunately it also has all the inherent design faults of the original!

I used the non-bass version of one of these with my old Trace Cabs a while back while my usual head was getting serviced. Quite a fun sound indeed... retro Jack Bruce sound :-)

So have a free bump for this!

:)

Ok here are a few pic's of the Amp.

I should note the power valves are now matched JJ EL34's.

Preamp valves are a combination on Sovtek, Brimar, JJ and electro-harmonix.

Boxed up are 4 original Mullards and 2 ERA EL34's.

I've got the receipt for the work at Music Ground, note the Hiwatt chicken head knobs.

Hope this helps.

Its collection only.

£350 no offers

Thanks

Alex

Vintage Hiwattesq sounds at a bargin price! You'd be mad not too.

Did I mention you can run 16, 8 or 4 ohms and it has two speaker outs.

Maybe i'm mad for selling it :)
