Trevge1 Posted March 29, 2021 Share Posted March 29, 2021 Hello everyone. I’m new here. A week ago my kitchen faucet had a major malfunction and a line blew inside of it. I went up stairs out the dogs in their kennel and came down. Half way I heard water leaking and thought the dishwasher had become louder than normal. As I came around the corner I saw a giant pool of water on my do not ever get wet wooden floor. After panicking and calling my wife home from work, we got it cleaned up. The flood lasted around 5-10 minutes. Cleanup over an hour. Discovering not had leaked into the basement and onto all of my music gear was not fun. All of my stuff was soaked. The humidity had risen to 68% so I was worried about the necks swelling on my bass’s and a couple of guitars. Then there was my four amplifiers and all of my electronics, including my keyboard and ribbon microphone. All of this stuff was directly under the upstairs sink. Also under the sink is a furnace vent. Somehow the water found it’s way into it and spread downstairs faster. This last Friday I received a call from the luthier stating my bass’s were swollen from the moisture, and two of the necks were had some bends, but otherwise seemed fine. He said he had sprayed WD-40 onto the electronics then blew them off and used electrical contact cleaner. Have any of you ever used Wd-40 like this before? I was also told that he wasn’t sure if down the road rust or electronic problems would or could occur. So one more thing to worry about. As for the electronics, they should be looked at some time early this week. The insurance company only authorized an inspection. Once the report is completed we will see what my options are. On my SWR amp, the one speaker cone has already started to separate from the body. What would any of you recommend for an amp with 2x10’s and a horn? Really sorry to hear about the flood, and hopefully the insurance will cover the damage. The WD in WD40 actually stands for Water Displacement, so using it to drive off moisture and prevent rust is perfectly fine. I've not used it on electronics, but I would. Others with more experience will be along to advise about other gear, or you can repost in Repairs and Technical, where you'll definitely get help. Hope you get sorted! 👍🏼 Slowly but surely. One Ltd B-50 four string is a wrote off. They said the neck would cost more than buying a new one.
