vinorange
Just got a Mexican jazz and the paint in the cutaways is hollow to tap and loose but still very much in place (although there is a crack in the lower cutaway). I know it’s common in fenders but I was wondering if anyone had tried any clever methods to insert glue under the paint and re-bond it to the wood beneath - like drilling a tiny hole, putting glue in a syringe, squirting it under the paint and masking the loose lacquer down......maybe..... vinorange
Really? It looks so shiny and lovely apart from the obvious hollow noise when tapping the finish.....
Twincam
Can you take a pic of the loose paint ? Edited September 11, 2018 by Twincam
gary mac
I have just fixed the very same problem on a Telecaster. As well as being loose, there was a very visible crack through which I was able to get some Titebond wood glue. This was applied using a pin, once I had a fair bit in there, I used masking tape to apply pressure to the repaired section and force it back against the wood. Obviously the cracks in the paint are still visible but the paint is now nice and firm.
Geek99
You could use some coloured wax to hide the crack
vinorange
Thanks Gary Mac. That’s the sort of thing I was thinking but didn’t know what glue to use or how to get it into the void. Titebond wood glue it is then and I wonder if I could use a syringe. I’m guessing I could then run a fine line of superglue down the crack when set......maybe......then scrape it back.....maybe I think I’ll try to solve the crack / hollow paint first. Geek99
I wouldn’t use superglue if you don’t like what titebind is doing you can wipe it off . You could spread it on and then wipe or peel off the excess superglue will stick to your paint ruining it if you make the tiniest error
MoonBassAlpha
I bet, if you applied some wax or thin layer of oil or grease to the finish, any excess superglue wouldn't stick to that very well at all.
