Looking for info on a certain Fender

Back in the mid 1990's I think, Fender released a re-issue of it's Fender Telecaster bass. It came in sunburst and I think a very pale yellow colour. The difference between this version and the current 51' re-issue is it had a contoured body and not a slab body. The studio I was recording in actually had one and it was a pretty decent bass. I am not sure where it was made but memory is saying Japan. That could be wrong though. Now the thing is, I have never seen any info or one for sale ever. Does anyone have any more info on this bass or know about the bass I am refering to??

Thanks

IIRC contoured body would be a 1954 reissue.

there was also a hybrid version, the vintage custom precision, which had PJ pickups, contours, big scratchplate and tele headstock.

check out the pink custom shop 55 reissue in this thread-

That pink one is a beauty.

Remonds me of my Jap shell pink P with maple neck I had a few years back - one of the basses I wished I had never sold. Been looking for another one ever since.

Feder Japan may have made '54 reissues as non-export models but I don't recall seeing them.

I had a yellow 90s '51 reissue and it was deifinitely slab bodied. That and the 2 tone sunburst one I had last year were the reason for me getting my Warmoth '54s made - loved the basses but the slab body was a killer. Same reason I sold my Ricks
