1960s Made in Japan brands?

Recommended Posts

I’ve got gas for a cheap 60s mij full scale bass. I’ve been unable to replicate that 60s sound with my gear, so looking for a NBD.

I know about brands like Teisco and Guyatone, but what other brand names are there? I’ve seen lots of short scale basses - but I’m looking for a full scale.

If you can find pages from a 60s Bells catalogue that will give you a good idea but a couple off the top of my head are Egmond and Top 20.

Just thought of another one, Commodore.

I think you’ll  find Egmond were short scale and European made. Top Tweny were unplayable beasts IMO, and I am not sure there Jap either.

Aria made some, Yamaha and early Ibanez.

AFAIK none of them were long scale as the OP requested.

Hard to find!

This Guyatone-made Kent is  supposed to have a 33.5" scale, but I don't know the model number.
