Lakland Skyline Darryl Jones Signature Bass (4 string)

I am selling a Lakland Skyline Darryl Jones 4 string bass in Lake Placid blue. This is the easiest bass I have ever played and is basically an updated Fender Jazz bass (see Lakland's excellent website for full details www.lakland.com/basses/jones.htm). It sounds far better than my Fender US Jazz and is louder and growlier. I think if you're a Jazz bass fan (I'm more of a P Bass man myself) then this is the place you want to be!!

This was imported from the US by me recently (it was sold new in the US in Jan 2007) and the over all condition is "as new" apart from a small paint chip on the very top of the head (pictured) where the edge of the case lid fell on to the top. There is no damage to the wood (a miniscule ding) and it is only the paintwork that has been affected. The body is perfect and it is virtually unplayed.

These are as rare as Hen's teeth in the UK and will cost you £1000 plus every day of the week. If you're looking for something different, please take my word for it and look no further.

It comes with the original white scratchplate as well as a custom made red tortoise pickguard. I had it completely overhauled and checked out at Anderton's in Guildford (full details available).

When I took it out of the case it turned every head in the store and I was asked when I went to pick it up if I was the guy who owned the beautiful "West Ham bass" that everyone had been drooling over!!

The body shape is quite different from a Fender Jazz (lower horn is a lot shorter and body is more contoured) but the neck is the same dimensions and is a beauty.

Included is a virtually new well-padded gigbag or (for probably an additional £10 postage charge) a well-used Warwick flightcase (battered but bulletproof).

Fingerboard Maple with block inlays

Tuners Lightweight Hipshot

Pickups Passive Lakland single coils (very loud!!)

I have two 5 string versions and they are effing awesome, whoever buys this will not regret it. It will wipe the floor with the Fender 70s re-issues and the slightly smaller, slightly more contoured body is sooo comfortable.

The Lake Placid Blue finish looks a million bucks in person compared to all the pics I've seen too.

I concur with P-T-Ps comments about the DJ5. Amazing bass, ever better with a J-Retro, in my opinion.

Once I sell my Status I will be after a DJ4.

Probably the DJ4, DJ5, Duck Dunn, Stingray 5 with Status Neck & East pre-amp and maybe the 1980 Stingray. A bit of a load but it's not far.

When I took it apart to fit the J-Retro I could find no identifying marks on the pick-ups so I emailed Lakland to ask the difference between Aeros and Laklands own.

The Aeros in my DJ5 are plastic covered but this DJ4 has cloth covered wires so back again.

So there you go it's a DJ4 factory fitted with Lindy Fralins, hardly to the published spec but I'm well pleased.

For future reference it might well be worth having a look inside to check before buying a Daryll Jones.
